The NEXT STEP: Maps & Minis

Sorry did not mean you" CaptainJack23' where ranting, I left out a few important word’s “My friend" rants about the poor quality of sculpts, and yet he is compelled to modify them, such is his love of Star Wars and Sci-Fi RPG gamming.

He runs SW games and I do the Traveller..

I've also been building up a nice collection of minis from the SW line that seem perfectly suitable for Traveller, and inexpensive to boot. SW Gotals are fine for Vargrs, and there are so many figures associated with the Old Republic (both the newest set and older ones) that IMO have that Traveller look to them: Old Republic soldiers and commanders strike me as very Imperium, the human mercenary is a nice space marine, Galactic Alliance soldiers look like security or police, and there's at least a dozen plain human scouts, fringers, Corellians, Alderaan citizens and so on that look just right to me for characters from all walks of life. And a few D&D minis here and there fill in for alien lifeforms quite well, some almost more sci-fi than fantasy in appearance. It's very easy to put together a big collection for 25 - 50 cents each, and I find it more satisfying than cardboard minis.

Doesn't replace my love for my 15mm Martian Minis, just evokes a different feel. "Country" and "Western" indeed!

Let me toss out a thought here...

SJ Games has a product called "Cardboard Heros" One book of fantasy, one book of "modern" (which seems to be lots of super-hero types), and Traveller ones in their deck plans.

I have the fantasy set, all cut out. While they are nice they should have had way more actual miniatures instead of filling space with tons of the same dead body on the floor, pile of coins, etc.

I managed to pick up all six sets of plans at Gencon for a mere $20, I think they were either $10 or $20 originally. Since I'll probably never get the sheets again I'm going to see about scaning them in and printing them out on cardboard stock so I'll always have them.

While the name "Cardboard Heros" is taken, anyone putting out pdf's of GOOD minis we can print out would be great.

And to go with them, SJ Games makes bases for the minis... I've got five different sets (red, black, white, grey, and yellow) and use them to color code PCs, NPCs, monsters/animals, etc.

Almost all the office places now have self serve Color copiers, which is how I backed up my set...... Thinking of which, I just had an bad idea, I'm gonna take mine down and reduce them to 60% => i.e. down to 15mm to mach the set of the old 15mm Traveller sets that Steve did 20 years ago....

GREAT IDEA! And I won't be using tons of ink on my printer along with using heavier stock in THEIR machine.

Although I do have my eyes on a nice HP color laser... just a bit more saving.

Go with the HP, I have a Samsung CLP, and it has a very dodge paper feed and no bypass tray when I replace it it will most likely be a HP Color laser.
