Starting shortly, we, in ID Gaming (the hard core players) Are starting a Dilgar war campaign. to date we have
Neroon - Dilgar
Wing Commander - Pak'Ma'R
Nidalp - Dilgar
Me - Brakiri
Big G - League fleet (combined)
and Nomad - early EA

we have a few rules, eg larger fleets and two attacks per turn for Dilgar, League cannot attack until attacked, EA come in at a random turn based on a dice roll and so on.

Now then, due to ISD's, the Brakiri fleet I am controlling will be based upon Rich Bax's Dilgar war stuff, so an Early avioki, the Antoph, an early Brockados and the Courumi dreadnaught. What I am asking is advice on general fleet composition, to take on the dilgar, do I go for fewer, tougher ships like the Avioki, or do I try to outnumber them with smaller, faster ships, to maximise targets, and firepower?! or a general mix. I have only played against the Dilgar once with Brakiri where I spanked them good and proper, but the Dice were with me! I did feel that Squadroned Ikortas were good against them, but anyone have any thoughts? If anyone wants to look at the ships I have available to choose , my web link and then supplements will direct you to Richs supplement :-), as well as the Ikorta

well, as it is a historic campaign, using SFOS ships means I can only really field the Ikorta (possibly Brikorta, but I couldn't remember the dates!) so using "the wave" a dilgar war supplement by rich Bax, my fleet consists of

2 points Corumai Class Dreadnought CQ 5 War
1 Point Avioki CQ 4 Battle
1 Point Avioki CQ 4 Battle
1 Point Avioki CQ 4 Battle
1 point Halos Class Heavy Scout CQ 5 Raid
Ikorta CQ 4 Skirmish
Ikorta CQ 4 Skirmish
1 Point Halos Class Heavy Scout CQ 4 Raid
Ikorta CQ 5 Skirmish
Ikorta CQ 5 Skirmish
1 Point Deveskar class Carrier CQ 4 Raid
Pitikos wing CQ 2 patrol
Pitikos wing CQ 4 patrol
Pitikos wing CQ 4 patrol
1 point Antoph Light Cruiser CQ 3 Raid
Calorta CQ 4 Skirmish
Ikorta CQ 4 Skirmish
1 Point Antoph Light Cruiser CQ 4 Raid
Antoph Light Cruiser CQ 4 Raid

the Avioki is an early one, the Ikorta is standard, the Halos is an Avioki scout, pretty tough, and the Calorta is an Ikorta scout varient. the Deveskar is an early Brokados, and the Antoph has no modern model equivalent, but is a reasonable raid ship.

Hiff,

have you started this campaign yet?

How have these old ships faired?
Used the Dreadnought yet?looks like a bit of waste of points to me
How about the Antoph? and the old Avioki?
The Halos looks like a good ship - a ship I would use a lot of
what about the Calorta? - could be heandy with its stealth and good front weapons - 6 dice of DD on a skirmish..mean
The Pikitos fighters look nasty - how have faired against the Dilgar?
The Deveskar looks like a useful ship though

nope not started yet, first week of feb hopefully. I know the Dreadnought was expensive, but I thought I'd give it a go, Never really rated the tashkat till I used one, and it surprised me (Anything blowing up an Omega in one shot is good in my book!)
Both the scouts look pretty decent, and yes, the fighter looks mean, but I suspect the Dilgar will have fighter superiority in most cases. Will link some reports up as and when things get going :-)

Hiffano,

I've run these ships quite a bit. I have serious concerns about the Halos. I think it has way too many guns. I really like the concepts of the Antoph, but it has too few guns. Your best ships will be the Calorta and the Ikorta. The Calorta is one mean sob.

The Deveskar I am hot and cold over.

I havent run the Corumai yet, but I like the concept behind it.

I've sent a lot of comments to Rbax regarding his ships from the Wave. Hopefully some of the changes I suggested will get put in when the ships come out for ACTA. At least I assume these are going to be the new Brakiri hulls that are being released. BTW the Brikorta is 2232+

Good Luck

Dave
