An Ancients device sparked the Core Expeditions, journeys that would take the Zhodani closer to the Galactic Core than any other known civilisation. Spanning thousands of years and costing trillions of Credits, the Zhodani are now over halfway to the centre of the galaxy. However, not all is well, and the Consulate has been keeping secrets. The Travellers may be the ones to solve an interstellar catastrophe before it reaches Charted Space.

The Core Expeditions takes Referees and Travellers through the eight expeditions, discovering stellar abnormalities, ships, vehicles, animals, robots, and more. This book covers the extensive history of the expeditionary forces, the beginning of the Core Expeditions, and includes notes on running an expedition as a Traveller campaign. At the heart of many Traveller campaigns is the desire for exploration, to seek new worlds and meet new peoples. The Core Expeditions allows you to do just that, taking part in any expedition, including those that have spread throughout the path coreward like water bursting from a dam.

Not in my Traveller universe, thank you very much! :)

Much like Rebellion, Hard Times, the Virus and Singularity.
I've only been around for Mongoose 2E, but I can tell reading old comments that all of these were... controversial back in the day. Glad to see that Mongoose has made them all possibilities, rather than "Yeah, all of these are definitely happening."

I also bought it. I did a quick page through it. I am looking forward to giving it a thorough read. Traveller has always been very light on Zhodani material. It will be interesting to see more about them.

In particular, I want to see how they handled the logistics of such a long expedition along one route. I liked the Rim Expeditions (Solomani) idea of creating enclaves from which to base further explorations. It seems to me that at about one-year of travel increments you would need a suitable world (environment, resources, etc) where you could establish a strong, permanent colony and build a shipyard where you could do jump drive overhauls and give your crew shore leave.

I am interested to read how the Zhodani did it.

Yeah, I much prefer the "Many different possible futures" style of long campaigns to "We know what's happening and maybe we'll tell (sell) you that information at some point" version of setting management by a game company.

Virtual crew are mentioned as well...

it's almost as if we are finally getting to see the toys used as they should be in the setting....

Now I have a theory about this.

The Imperium is still incredibly averse to robots and computers getting too clever because of Vilani inertia, the shudusham incident didn't help matters.

The Zhodani fdon't have such a hang up, so where high TL robots and virtual crew offer an advantage they use them Also the Zhodani appear to value life a lot more than the Imperium... the Imperium stuffs people into battle armour while the Zhodani use warbots,

I really like how the wave is dealt with as well...

yes there is this wave... an now on with the exploration.

And I very much prefer "we will not douse the setting with kerosene and take a match to it but here's some ways in which you might do it" to... well, let's just say there's a reason I took a long hiatus from Traveller.
