Ethin is a man on the run, driven by a censorious religious dictatorship from his homeworld and into the unlikely company of a mercenary Aslan trader, an inscrutable Marzian mechanic, and a medic who is surely too young for the life of a pirate.
With their aging free trader coming apart around them, Ethin and his fellow Travellers are forced to set down for repairs. Empire looks like a pleasant enough world on which to lie low, but with a ship-full of rowdy Aslan escorting the Hradus ambassador to Pax Rulin, it is not quite the quiet retirement colony it appears to be.
But the real question, as Ethin is obliged to wonder; is it art?
