Templates, movement markers, fired markers

Mongoose
I've seen some people using a template for moving and figuring out arcs. I thought it'd be pretty nice to have one of these as well, but I tried looking for just a protractor with a hold big enough in the middle, but most of them have a bar where the ship should go. I guess I could try cutting it... I could just print one out too, but I'd rather it be plastic. Anyone have any suggestions?

I played my first game the other night using proxies and it became clear that having tokens or some such to put next to the craft after they move and then another after they fire would save a lot of confusion (especially when coming back to a game after a night). Seeing how small the bases for the craft are I'm considering slapping magnets on the bottom of the mini's and using my Alea tools markers, but that wouldn't work when I was playing against someone who wasn't using my mini's. So are there nice options out there? Do people just generally use whats at hand? I watched a video of some people playing BFG where they had markers for hits and things.

Thanks all!

people may well be using the origional B5 ones from GF9. the Arc template was invaluable, and also doubled up as a measure.

Ahh I see, thank you! Hmm.. they don't seem to sell that anymore. Though they do have a Multi-Template that looks to have an arc and a small ruler. I may try that, but I think first I'm going to try to print out a protractor and glue it to some cardboard. Though if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears :)

See if you can find any Battlefleet Gothic players in your area. The game came with turning/firing arc templates that are perfect for ACTA, and the rest of the cardboard crud in the box also has uses. Their blast markers are a fine (and colorful) visual indicator of shield burnout status, and their planet and moon markers are serviceable terrain. I may be selling my BFG fleets, but I'll hang on to the counters forever.

Yeah they would be... I found that Games Workshop has their templates (except for the movement one) available for download as a PDF on their site. But, I'm not sure I like the look of them.

There's always the "dice on the base" technique for marking burnouts, although that can be a problem if the table gets bumped. I use the BFG stuff mostly because I had it handy - I think I bought twelve copies of the core box over the years, in part because I had to replace a stolen fleet from scratch.

Well, I'm using very small dice to mark shields, tiddly winks to mark no shields and a scratch built turn/arc marker - although it's getting to the point that I'd really like to have counters for special actions and such like. The turn/arc marker is made out of a plastic cd spacer - clear plastic disc the size of a cd with a hole in the middle - I just made the hole big enough for a large base to fit inside, cut out the rear arc and cut grooves in to mark the remaining 3 arcs as well as an arrow to show straight ahead facing and grooves to show where a small base fits inside the larger one. Looks a bit heath-robinson, but it does the job!
