Technical Illustrations

Mongoose
During our group's latest play session I realized that Mongoose Traveller
has only very, very few technical illustrations, and that I am really mis-
sing them.

For example, 2300 AD had pictures of almost every single item of equip-
ment described in the books. It was easy to show those pictures to the
players to give each of them the same impression of what their gear loo-
ked like.

Not so with Mongoose Traveller, illustrations of pieces of equipment are
quite rare, and I find this a little disappointing, because in my opinion
such illustrations would make my job as GM much easier.

Agree completely.

IIRC, Bryan Gibson and David Dietrick did most of those illustrations. Maybe they could be contacted and hired to do some for Mongoose Traveller?

Yeah, get some young kid with the CAD skills, they're waaay cheaper ...*

I agree, there is really not enough visualisation of gadgetry and architecture in Traveller. Plenty of character and ship art, but proportionally very little of anything else. And there is really no need to limit this to only one or two 'official' Traveller artists. We need to crank up those horizons a bit, now that Mongoose has let the game out of the OTU box.

*Probably Messrs. Gibson and Dietrick were considerably more affordable in the dim days of yore, too.

I know of a number of artists who produce nice concepts for guns and gear. I'll start posting some additions along those lines in the Inspirational Art thread as and when I have time.

Nice - your collections I have seen are excellent.

I'd definitely recommend searching 3D modeller and renderer sites -I have many great images on my HD from such (not credited/linked tho - so it would be improper to share).

I have intentions to do some of my own... but well they are just intentions as yet!

i love a good equipment guide, with good illustrations and fluff...

stardrive had a really good one which i still refer too for a touch of inspiration.

So long as the illustrations are gritty and look like they can be used. I have no problem who does the illustrations. One example I keep coming back to is TSR's Star*Drive Equipment Guide, as for me this what Traveller could be...http://www.scribd.com/doc/3469204/Alternity-StarDrive-Arms-Equipment-Guide

Illustrations of the items actually being used would be peachy. They'd provide a sense of scale (if the description reads "This item, the size of a mobile phone," it'd make sense to show it fitting in a hand ... though not necessarily a human one ...)

Yeah - I love it when scale human figure is present in an illustration. Placing equipment in a hand or being handled is good for that too!

[uh - didn't mean me 'being handled', well.. I mean to say.. when a peice of equipment is being held.. uh.. you know what I mean.. stop that snickering...]
