Tech is too setting-specific?!

Or, perhaps, because Chaoisum just released a new version of BRP, and they want to see which percentile system will grab the fanbase.

Technically I don't think BRP is out yet. There's been previews and galley proofs, but no actual book is out yet (they showed the original cover for it on rpgnet a while back and it got laughed out of the forum it was that bad, so they're redoing that at least. And yes, it really was awful).

Unless there's two BRP books in the pipeline and I'm getting confused...??

They are selling Galley Proofs. My LGS had one on the shelf. just checked their website.

Hate to jump into the middle of this but...

From reading the stuff that Mongoose has published about their intent for the Traveller line, I assumed the following:

Traveller would be GENERIC Traveller, not tied to a specific setting, but still recognizable as Traveller to all of us CT people.

Other settings (ATUs) would be possible under the OGL and could be published with licenses.

Alternate Settings with some different rules (Starship Troopers, Judge Dredd etc) would be developed using the core book, but would need some setting specific rules (different ships, guns FTL drive whatever) that was different from Traveller.

I did NOT get the impression that Mongoose or T5 was trying to be a generic SF gaming system that could be adapted to anything.

Yeah, that's what I see, too. However, I suspect that with such a long wait for a new edition, pent-up expectations and wishes are driving optical receptors in many different directions.

But mongooses goal does seems straightforward enough...and, IMO a good one.

The unedited, preliminary, BRP is available to buy on the Chaosium website. The edited version will arrive sometime next year.
