Does target size and range affect detection? Just how close can a missile get before it triggers an alarm? How far away can you detect an adrift spaceman? I've been looking for rules on this without success.

A powered missile should be detectable at long range with passive sensors because missiles aren't stealthy when under-power. Nothing really is. So I would say it should trigger an alarm at maximum detection range.
An adrift spaceman would be a very small target. You are probably talking just a few kilometers before they'd become difficult to spot. The caveats to that would be a) does the suit have a beacon on it,and b) is the suit optimized to return radar/lidar echoes, or emphasize it's heat exhaust. Those would help it being spotted, but beyond that the flying dutchman would remain flying.
