Taking casualties

Do casualties have to be taken from models that are in LoS, or just in the fire zone? I would think it would be Line of Sight, but then the rules aren't clear although it kind of says so on page 18, it can be taken to mean the fire zone has to be within line of sight (which I get)

I can reason it that they were hit while moving between cover, or even saying that the unit is not filled with stationary models as they are all darting around and such.

Take casualties closest to the shooters and in line of sight, you cannot allocate dice to models you can't see, which also means the unit cannot be suppressed if you cannot allocate a dice to all models in the unit.
