Sword and Shield

Say you have the combat skill 'sword and shield' at 65%. During a battle you manage to lose the shield, what do you roll against? Is your skill diminished because you've lost one part of the 'fighting set' so to speak?

Thanks

In the Core rules as written then no, there is no skill penalty.

However you do loose your extra CA gained by the shield and also the ability to parry quite as much damage, so the effect can be pretty serious.

You also become even more at risk form missile fire.

If you as GM rule that the shield is a vital part of the style, then you can apply a "difficult" (-20%) or "hard" (-40%) modifier to the style until he gets some form of shield back.

Otherwise, the penalties that Vagni describe are severe enough imo.

So it's pretty much GM fiat?

No, check out final paragraph on page 82 Core Rulebook: no skill penalty for losing your shield. It is explicitly stated. You can give penalties as house rules but RAW do not.
