You folks are British, so this 70s series might be familiar to some of you (as I imageing you're all in your 30s like me). It was created by Terry Nation (creator of the Daleks and much of early Doctor Who's stories) and revolved around the few remaining humans surviving in a world beset by a plaque, refered to only as "The Sickness" in which 90% or more of the Earth's population was killed off. Mostly the feel was summed up in one speech in the first episode by a character who dies, imparting the first series' heroine (and by inclusion, the viewing audience) with the task of answering the question, "what would you do?"

Imagine cities filled with so many dead bodies that they were unapproachable for miles, and that that carrion would foster more disease and would prevent the few survivors from reaching any kind of supplies that they might need. Food and weapons wouldn't be as important in those months when noone could enter the cities, but ultimately the simpler things like a sharp knife, a shovel, or a candle would become more valuable that gold or diamonds ever were.

There is no medicine. There's no petrol. There's no communication, and there are no specialists. The world is left to the few remaining people with no skill for surviving in thier generation. Children couldn't survive the Sickness, and neither could the elderly. Rabid dogs and escaped zoo animals hamper any attempts to farm or form settlements.

What would you do?

Look here!

With the new movie I Am Legend, this is going to be a fresh theme again possibly. Moreover, BBC seems to intend to re-boot the Survivors series soon, so it could be just the right time to consider this lisence.
