Suppression again and fireteams

Soo...

asked this before and never got a good enough answer to it...

1) So do you count suppression dice against the number of survivors in a squad or the number of models in the unit before the dead models are removed?

2) A new one. Should you mark the models in the beginning of the game as to which fireteam they are part of? As in, if a unit loses a rifleman or two and you decide to split the unit up later, do you get to choose which fireteams the dead were from originally or what?

I'd say mark them before battle but just making sure...

I also would suggest marking your sergeants and corporals separately...

1. Dead models still have dice allocated against them (that is what took them out in the first place). Can't help feeling I am misunderstanding the question here. . .

2. In a tournament game, you probably should. From wave 2 onwards, all models will be marked on the underside of their bases.

What Matt is saying to the suppression question is that you still assign damage dice to the entire squad, starting with the highest in front, to lowest in back, before removing casualties.

In essence, you check for suppression before you remove casualties.

So, effectively, the models that just died do count for suppression.

I think what the original question is trying to ask is do you count the number of men before or after casualties for determining how many dice you need to allocate to suppress it.

For example, a unit of 8 men comes under fire and is assigned 5 damage dice, after kills and failed armour save it loses three men leaving it with 5 men left. This shooting attack was 5 dice. So is it suppressed or would you have to shoot at it with 8 dice in that action to suppress it?

I would say its the number before casualties that count as the rules say 'if you allocate as many damage dice as a unit HAD models....'
