Suggestions Requested: mini-logos for Freelance Traveller

FreeTrav

Cosmic Mongoose
Since our inception, Freelance Traveller has supported all incarnations of Traveller, including alternate systems and alternate settings. What we've gotten, though, has largely been aimed at the classic Third Imperium setting, or at settings largely compatible with them. Occasionally, we've gotten stuff for homebrews, but even they can be used in 3I settings without too much violence.

With the upcoming May/June issue, that's changing. We're now starting to see material come in for 2300AD, and that's not going to be as easy to 'Third Imperialize'. So, we'd like to make it a little easier to distinguish between largely incompatible settings for our articles. The idea we have is for a small logo to appear next to the section name in our black bars at the top of each article in the PDF, and somewhere near the top of the web page, possibly in the center of the sun logo.

We have a couple of ideas, but we'd like your ideas as well. Please let us know what you think would be a good logo for the following settings. Remember that they need to fit and be distinguishable as orange-on-black or black-on-orange-or-yellow sillouhettes, about a quarter-inch high.

We most need logos for these settings, which we expect will be heavily written for:

Third Imperium/Setting Non-specific
2300AD
Prime Directive

We haven't received any articles for these settings specifically, but are willing to call them out if we do:

Hammer's Slammers
Judge Dredd
Strontium Dog

We've printed articles for these settings, but so far only from the publishers of that setting:

Twilight Sector
Hyperlite

Please write to us with your suggestions - if you like, include a (preferably vector format) example of the logo you're thinking of; we'll convert it to the format(s) and color(s) that we need.

That's to bad. I read every basic Traveller article you have. I skip all the others. Maybe others are interested?
We don't consider it bad; we are, after all, a Traveller support magazine, and want to support the entire community. Currently, we're on a roughly-24-pages-per-month load, and that allows us to carry a little bit of a backlog; but with the 2300AD community now able to join us, and the Star Trek/Prime Directive community to follow, we could see that increasing - and the cross-fertilization possibilities will increase, naturally.

No, not every article is going to be for every reader. We knew and accepted that from the day Freelance Traveller opened up as a tacky six-page site on Dragonfire close to twenty years ago. It wasn't true of any other Traveller publication, either - not even the original Journal of the Travellers' Aid Society. What was, is, and always will be true is that we're not interested in "cutting out" any part of the Traveller community - no matter what version of the rules or what setting they're interested in. We print what people submit; if you don't see your preferred setting or system, it's because people aren't writing for it. Since our writers are also our readers, I can only offer the following advice: If you want to see more of what you like, write some to share - your example just might be what's needed to push someone else "over the edge" into trying their own hand at writing - and the entire community benefits thereby.
