Steampunk

I am quite interested in the steampunk rulebook about to be released. While I have had little interest in the ogl products thus far, I am interested in steampunk, and plan to incorporate things from it into my Lonewolf d20 game. (such as, toys for dwarven gunner chars, some things to flesh out dwarven citites, etc). Depending on the things present in the book, I may even play a pure steampunk game, if my group plans to run one. (doubt it though, hands full with LW right now).

I was just wondering about a few things, and it would be nice if I could know the follwing things before buying the book;

-Are there going to be any core classes in the book?

-Is there going to be a new spellcasting system, different from standard dnd's memorization? ( I would like to play a spellcaster if I ever play in the setting)

-The video game Arcanum had some interesting idea's on how magik and technology interfered with each other; any chances of something like this in the rulebook?

-Will the book be color or black/white?

well, any nifty previews ready tobe put upto meet my quality standards or some such?

Hello Xex,

While I am not a Mongoose, I'd like to take a stab at some of your questions.

-Are there going to be any core classes in the book?
Absolutely. As an OGL book, Steampunk will have to provide a full range of core classes. Whether they will have any similarity to the standard D&D classes is anyone's guess.

-Is there going to be a new spellcasting system, different from standard dnd's memorization?
No idea, but I'll bet there is.

-The video game Arcanum had some interesting ideas on how magik and technology interfered with each other; any chances of something like this in the rulebook?
Beats me, but I'm sure they will have rules on how they interact.

-Will the book be color or black/white?
All the OGL books are in full color. I have Ancients and it is very well laid out and quite pleasing to the eye (in addition to being extremely well written).

Hi guys,

According to my crystal ball, OGL Steampunk will be in the shops next week - stand by for a full preview. . .

Let me be the first to say, hurrah! Cannot wait to get me hands on that book. Thanks for the heads up. Any chance of a larger image of the cover so that we can appreciate the art a little more clearer?

Wait... it's not full color like the other OGL books?!?!

Does it still have the slick paper?

I wasn't expecting this... Hm...

Chris

It's not glossy paper - I think it's the same paper as found in the Quintessential books.

I don't think it's the end of the world, though. :)

The interior artwork is very good, and more consistant throughout in style and appearance than it was in OGL Horror (not to say that I didn't like the artwork in that book) - gives the book a more thematic, unified feel.

I wasn't expecting to see it in my FLGS yesterday, so I didn't have enough cash on me to pick it up. Today at lunch it will be a different story, if I can get away from my office. :)

I just picked up my copy at lunch, and haven't had a chance to look at it - but am greatly annoyed to see the utter lack of a character sheet.

Could someone at Mongoose post one, as having one is unbelievable?

(And for that matter, could someone post a non-smeared version of the OGL Ancients character sheet?).

Chris,
Have you seen it around the Youngstown area for sale???
Can't speak for the Youngstown area. Here in Columbus we have not gotten it yet.
Checked with our distributor. They got it this past Friday. So it should be part of our next weeks order.

There really aren't many "Friendly Local Gaming Stores" in my area (Niles-Warren-Mineral Ridge-Austintown), so I generally order online, or through Rainbow Comics in Boardman. I've bought comics there for umpteen years, and if it's something I KNOW I want, I'll have Pat order it for me.

I hope it's not like the Ultimate Equipment Guide.. that poor thing is nice, but it feels so... hollow...

Does this mean that OGL Wild West isn't having color either?

Thanks
Chris

Rainbow Comics is still open in Boardman? Where I thought they closed across from the Mall. What about all American? I wan to get some RPG stuff but I do not want to drive to Kenmore Komics in Akron... PM me if you can where you order online that is pretty decent..

Rainbow moved up the road. Pat's rent got rediculous... It's in the Gorant's Plaza a bit up the street across 224 on the right.

As for online.. mostly where I can get a good deal. Amazon, FRPGames (great guy), and ebay is great for things you want cheap that you wouldn't normally buy. :D
