starting traits for street judges?

Aren't street judges supposed to have a couple of starting traits (heroic rush and brave) ? Did I miss something? (quite possible)... On page 23 the street judge is listed as a "hero" and then later, the heroes and minions sections states that every hero starts at level 1 - so are we expected to further modify a street judge to add 2 talents as expressed on the experience chart? or is that ONLY if a MINION becomes a hero? (In other words: figures that start as heroes just start with whatever their stat block says - and when they level up to level 2 they gain a talent)

Creating a Hero

Every model in your force listed as a Hero starts at Level 1.

You must immediately add +1 to two of the following for the Hero; Move, Agility, Shoot, Melee, Melee Dice and Will.

If you are upgrading a Minion to a Level 1 Hero, you must also add +1 Hits.

You must then give it two Talents.

Talents Every time a Hero earns a new Talent (two at level 1 and one every level thereafter), select one from the next chapter and apply it immediately. Some Talents have prerequisites (such as already owning other Talents or

If a unit is listed in the rulebook as a level X hero, then it already has any bonuses for the levels already bought included in its stats - the +50 creds and stat increases are there if you wish to 'make' a hero out of (for example) a punk for a criminal gang.

Note that you can level up a model bought as a hero - you're then into the realms of a hero increasing levels, so it costs +25 creds a level.

If you were to take a senior judge, then in theory you should be able to 'unpick' his statline back down to that of a street judge or rookie.

In other words: figures that start as heroes just start with whatever their stat block says - and when they level up to level 2 they gain a talent
Yes.

Yes.

I don't know where I got the street judge start traits from...I thought it was a play test incarnation but I couldn't find it...perhaps I just made up a higher level hero for one of my play tests. I think I had a 250pt street judge for one game at some point. so maybe that was it.

thanks for the clarification anyway

no...wait.

page 23 has a Street Judge under Forces that cost 150 with no talents and is listed as "hero" (sorry - I repeatedly said "traits" above when I meant "talents")

but the mercenary street judge on page 54 cost 150 as well , but has 2 talents and higher stats and is a level 1 hero - so shouldn't he cost at least +25 creds more than the standard street judge?

The way I read it, from page 30, when you buy a hero, you choose to add 1pt each to two stats, and assign it two talents.
Additionaly, if you are upgrading a minion to hero, then you also add +1 hits.

Maybe the section regarding upgrading a minion would be better in parenthesis, but this is just the way I read it.

This would then make the Street Judge just the same as a judge hero in terms of 'advances', but you get to choose the ones for your hero.

This is correct. Mercenaries come 'as is' but you can customise the heroes in your own force. We simply list whether they are Heroes or not, and you get to choose everything from then on!

If you notice, the "reinforcement" judge has 1 more shoot and melee dice than the starting judge, Plus the two talents.

So when you buy the judge you technically "level" him up to hero status and add the bonuses. Me, I would add move and will.

I never noticed the stat differences - I've been doing the Judges' abilities a dis-service!

I think that it would be good to have this spelt out somewhere, just to make it clear to anybody who doesn't read the forums.

As for using this knowledge, I'd be tempted to use the two stat increases differently for different Judge types - both on Will for the Psi, +1 on the Agility for the Med-Judge (as it depends on the Agility checks)...

I think the 2 stats need to be different. in other words, you can't bump +2 on will. it's got to be +1 to one stat and +1 to a different stat.

"You must immediately add +1 to two of the following for the
Hero; Move, Agility, Shoot, Melee, Melee Dice and Will." is what the book states.

Taken literally it does state "two". So It does sound like you are correct. Though you get rules lawyers who will counter with "but it doesnt say they have to be different!"

So like in tournament cases, take the most literal interpretation. At least until a FAQ or or rule that corrects it.

That is my two cents.
