Hi all,
New to Mongoose's Conan, but far from new to role -playing. However it's been a long time since I did any Games Mastering, so if anyone can suggest starting scenarios, I shall be really gratefull.
Cheers.
Hey Priest and welcome to the boards! If you want to have a quick one-shot adventure I recommend The Coming of Hanuman. It's an inexpensive PDF that can be run in a single session and has a pretty interesting plot to boost with chances for combat and negotiation. If you're looking for an entire campaign I recommend Trial of Blood. This campaign will take characters from 1st to around 12th level with a series of linked adventures.
As far as I'm concerned you can't go wrong with either one.
You can also grab a nice batch of fitting adventures and scenarios for free at Thulsa's site, http://hyboria.xoth.net/
Well written stuff, several people here have run it and like it. =)
Conan also lends itself nicely to free-form role playing.
What you could do is get all the character's generated and then simply tell all the players that they wake up in a cage on within a slave caravan to Stygia, or wherever. The whole adventure begins with breaking free, getting thier stuff back (or stealing new stuff) and getting on with life. Add to that the seed that the slave caravan was to amass enough workers to uncover some crypt containing the body of some prince and his undetermined treasure...bang...you have a mystery and a reason to stay together and in the region.
Thanks. I've looked at Thulsa's site and am very impressed. However, the scenarios he has there are for high level characters. I am looking for adventures suitable for starting characters. I've bought 'Trial of Blood', excellant but I'm not sure if a new group would have the stamina to work their way through it. Still, I'll keep looking, searching early D&D stuff seems a good idea.
Cheers.
Heretics of Tarantia could be used as a prequel to Trial of Blood, as the campaign is quite heavy stuff for a start. The adventure is OK and far more easier to handle for beginning players and GMs alike.
Tales of the Black Kingdom has good scenarios too (especially the last one in the book), but it's worth to read Thulsa's review of it first to find out what typos and illogical stuff has crept into them
