Starship Troopers Evo in the US

I have doubts. I'm here in Atlanta; 5+million people in this city and I'm the only person really playing. The Evil Empire has an exceedingly firm grip on this place (2 EE stores within an hour drive.)

There was some buzz over the Skinnies (many players held off because of "only 2 armies") until the models were revealed.

Likewise, some buzz for Evo, until yet another delay. Now, once bitten, twice shy. The gaming communities here have written SST, and BF:EVO for that matter, off.

I've still got about 3000pts of MI and Bugs, but they are now collecting dust. Several times they've often ended up on Ebay, but I keep holding out hope.

I have everything but the Roughneck and Bug books, and I like to read them, guess I'm weird that way. And I have a list of about 400 bucks worth of MI that I want to get eventually. I already have 1500 points of Exos, so about 10 figs plus about 30 Warriors painted.

Problem is that the other mini players play 40k or other games, and the 2 SST players in town haven't played in about 4 months.

There were some folks down in Denver playing, but I rarely get down there and don't know what their current status is. I'm planning on picking it up and promoting it here when it comes out, but I don't know how much luck I'll have breaking through the 40K glacier.

I'm still waiting for EVO, and we're still playing SST here in Iowa. We haven't added much new in a long time tho; we're awfully gun shy after the game got put on hold...and now delayed.

But are we going to buy it and play it? Oh yes. But we do plan to be careful and buy slowly and see what happens. We're hearing bad things about the prepaints, and having spent thousands on the game to have Mongoose just drop it I need to see something special before I'll start spending the gaming budget on it again. Mongoose also has a pretty black eye in the US for orders directly from them; everyone in our gaming group that has ordered from them has waited at least 6 weeks for the order to appear.

So....we'll see what happens. We'll play it, but Mongoose has burned us...it's going to start skeptical, and they'll have to sell us.

My area is kind of on the bubble right now.

I was able to talk a few people into starting the game right off. However many of them lost interest quickly due to slow release dates on the new models. (I mean only 2 factions is enough of a deterrent but when each side only has 2 or 3 models out then everyone feels like they have the same generic army.)

Many of us just started using proxy models and tried out new troop types and started to find some flaws in the game mechanics. Nothing ground breaking to the point that the game didn't work but enough that some cheese flavored tactics showed up... as well as some 'now what do we do' questions that only ended in confusion.

That being said I still almost had several people ready to give the game a chance if the skinnies came out with any decent models, a well thought out faction book, and with news of a 4th race. The verdict here was that the models were good but coming out slow, the faction book was weak, and we quickly found out that not only would there be no forth any time soon but that all releases would have to wait at least a year for new rules and re-released models.

Mongoose is doing what they have to do as a company and I understand that. They have to invest money in new product releases and wait for money to be returned through sales before they can invest in other releases. However fans want it all now. They want the full product line and rule set all at once. (Even though most won't have the money to buy their stuff all up front)

So may area... SST is near dead. I'm just hoping to keep it alive until SST:EVO finally rolls out.
