Stargate For Traveller?

I wonder if Mongoose could strike up a deal with the owners of the Stargate franchise to revitalize the rpg line of Stargate?

I'd love to see this done for Traveller. Would also open up the possibilty for minis and skirmish game.

Me too, or probably me 4 given that I live in a household with a total of 4 stargate fans of whom 3 are also traveller players.

The SG-1 RPG never had massive amounts of interest even in its heyday IIRC, and the activity on the Alderac forums now is sparse to say the least.

EDIT: Dang it, hit quote instead of edit the first time

Was that due to its complexity or daunting demeanor?

The books were highly detailed and ran through some of the shows in great detail, but had llittle in the way of actively expanding the world, iirc. Would a Stargate based on one of the simpler systems (Traveller, RQ) and with a different approach be more acceptable?

Hit quote first...  ...then edit to get rid of a spelling mistake.

I for one would love to see it happen, maybe at some of the different CONs, maybe have a question page and hand it out for folks to see if their might be any interests in the line. Then you would have a idea and some metrics to crunch.

I'm a big Stargate fan, as are most of my gaming friends. I have the d20 version of Stargate, and while it's a nice book, it just didn't have an "oomph" to make me want to play it. I bought it because I thought Stargate would make a great universe for PCs to play in, more so than I ever felt about Star Trek, Star Wars or even B5. Upon buying it, I lost interest, partly because the d20 class/level system it's based on didn't seem to fit the setting, and looked like it would make the PCs unwieldy after 10-12th level or so, and therefore non-stargatey.

I still want to play a Stargate campaign, and Traveller is definitely a better fit for it than d20 was. The MGT career system would fit especially well for Stargate - the careers could define your character right up to the moment you joined the SG program and possibly even after that if desired.

my big problem with the SG RPG was that it linked promotion to levels. As you leveled up you got automatic promotions.

So it was hard to have a team like SG1(or any proper SG team) with a proper chain of command, one of the only games of it i played had two majors as the highest ranked officers.

basically it would have taking a lot of work to turn into a proper ongoing campaign.

I would however love to play in that universe!

Me too, I really have a problem with d20 mechanics, especially levels, for modern roleplaying. When I think of a 4th Level Ranger I don't picture someone with a Helmet and and M4

I never used the D20 system, which don't fit at all modern RPG for me. I used simple D100 system and we have done some nice games :D

Look BRP d100 is a good system and can be used in almost any setting, but I see no reason the SG-1/SGA/SGU (aka...StarGate setting) couldn't also use the Traveller mechanics and work quiet nicely in the universe. Heck the Stargate Rings could have been created by the "Ancients" or another set of Ancients, and would work nicely into the timeline too. Anyway if Judge Dred, and etc can work so can the StarGate strory line. I feel there is a heck of alot more story arcs there than the others.

PS: BattleStar Galatica would also be another nice addition as well too!!!
