SST Evo Questions

Mongoose
Hi All,

I have a few more questions regarding SST Evo, so any advice you can give me will be graciously accepted!

I have a large collection of SST models I purchased, but then life happened (why does life always get in the way of gaming?) and it sat on my shelf untouched. I have finally begun the mass assembly of MI and Bug models and I'm really itching to start playing.

As a new player, does it make more sense to start playing with what Evo rules are available so far (ie. the Evo stat cards posted to the forum and the Battlefield Evo quick start rules)? Is this enough to begin playing? I'm just thinking that as a new player, why confuse myself learning the old rules and then retraining myself with the new rules... thoughts?

Will the SST Evo rules be similar to the Battlefield Evo rules? Say I was to pick up a copy of the Battlefield Evo advanced rules (which is sitting on the shelf of my LGS). Would it help my understanding of SST Evo or just confuse me later on? I can see by the stat cards that the two systems are quite similar on the surface...

I'm guessing that although the cards are not available for all the troop types, that I shouldn't concern myself that my Blasters or Mantis bugs will become obsolete.... I would imagine that all the troops currently available will see use in the game in one way or another...

Advice?

Unless you figure Mongoose wants to kill off SST for good that would be pretty safe bet yes.

They made sure to not invalidate any models in ACTA with V2. Don't see why they wouldn't be equally smart with SST

This is probably a fine way to go. If you already have the rev 1 rules and army books, then it might be a toss-up: more complete rules for tunneling and scenario design versus the minor retraining investment later. If you don't have access to the army books, just go with the new rules and refer to the basic book if you aren't happy with specific things.

I don't think it would be a huge help. The rules will be similar, I'm sure, but unless you're dealing with lots of air units (which I suppose you could) the main thing you'll pick up with the BFE advanced rules is scenario design and campaigns. Given the (hopefully) short time until the SST book comes out, I would just self-design scenario rules in the meantime.

We've got the cards we do because they fit on two A4 sheets of paper, to be passed out at a demo. I'm sure the other troops are all being ported over, but weren't in the demo sheets for space reasons.

Thanks,

This just sort of reinforces the decisions I was about to make. I'm interested in Battlefield Evo (I just don't have the time for more than two minis games right now), so I will probably pick up the rule book regardless.

If you wanted to work with the Evo ruleset, I'd recommend just using the quickstart rules you get in the minis boxes (or can downlaod for free from the site), that will lead to less confusion when (fingers crossed) the SST:Evo book comes out.
