Space Opera for the Eternal Champion?

Astromancer

Mongoose
Space Opera is clearly part of the Eternal Champion storyline. Several full flown Space adverntures are counted by Mr. Morecock as part of the series. Heck, Elric visits space operaish worlds. The Hawkmoon corebook implies that space opera/science fantasy is a good way to take a campaign.

Space Opera, unlike Science Fiction proper, wouldn't requier to much of a rules change, it would still clearly be RuneQuest (heck Barsoom, Mongo, Leigh Bracket's Mars, Witch World, or most of the Alien planets Northwest Smith visited would be good places to set up Glorantha style adventures). Chaosium even suggested that Elric could visit Ringworld ! Clearly, swords and spaceships belong with swords and sorcery.

A single sourcebook, RuneQuest Space Opera , with psionics, spaceships, and notes on fudging tech for an adverture game, would be lovely. :D

Reactions?

While I'm in agreement with you, Mongoose's aquisition of the Traveller license has pretty much scuttled any chance of them developing a Sci-Fi variation of RQ.

SpaceQuest R.I.P. - We hardly even knew ya.

I was so looking forward to Spacequest too. So at this point, a space opera book for the Eternal Champion line might well be something I would buy.

While I am happy to see traveler rescued from GURPS, I am sad to see spacequest die.

I would certainly take a hard look at a spaceopera book. But I wont hold my breath.

Here, here! I would buy that in a heartbeat! Maybe there is still some hope somewhere that Mongoose would publish such a thing, even if they have Traveler as well.

I would buy it as well! I would also buy a Kane of Old Mars book as well!!

Kane of Old Mars is counted as part of the Eternal Champion series by Mr. Morecock. Isn't there one story where Elric visits a spaceport?

Meh. Not to pee in anybodys cereal, but I'd rather see a decent "hard" scifi setting, rather than more space fantasy stuff. Between 40K and Star Wars the market is already covered on that

Don't remenber a spaceport in the Elric yarns. Though the People of Pio would fit easily into space opera.

So would I honestly, and that is what I thought Spacequest could be. But since Mongoose is putting out Traveller I don't see any chance of a hard sci-fi RQ based game.

Unless there was enough of a demand for it, just keep requesting it.

Yes I know that's why I mentioned it in a thread about the EC line, even though Kane of Old Mars is not space opera.

What was the old Chaosium 'Ringworld' game like ?
It's more complex in skills system, has hit locations and no space combat rules.

The Root/Branch skill system was cool, and simple in practice. Ringworld had one more stat than RuneQuest , that was Education, much like Call of Cthulhu .

The setting was grand. And Chaosium suggested crossovers involving Meliboneans and Gloranthans.

I'm now in book 8 of the colected Eternal Champion series, Sailing to Utopia. Guys, there are even more sci fi settings. The ice world is both cool and kwel. There are also three intersellar space stories in the book.

We so need RuneQuest: SpaceOpera!
