Space Combat Example

Any chance we can get an example in the book that uses all the rules possibly involved in space combat? That was sorely missing from the first edition, and I see it's missing from this edition too. Dedicating a few pages to a few rounds of space combat will save a lot of people a lot of frustration!

I think all the basic rules are there. Any rules would really be net-new, such as Orders from High Guard and so on.

We have rules for maneuvering, firing, reactions, repairs, operation, etc... What rules do you think are missing for space combat? Not Space vehicle construction mind you.

I'm not talking about missing rules, I'm asking for examples in practice. That tends to eliminate a lot of the questions that might arise. When I first read the original MGT space combat rules, it seemed pretty simple. When we started using them in play, all types of questions popped up. I found numerous posts on the forums with groups having similar problems while looking for answers. If there had been an example of space combat in practice, we could have just referred to that instead.

I think an example in the core rule book with a few rounds of space combat (and the same for personal combat and character creation) isn't too much to ask. Examples go a long way in helping new and old players alike understand the rules. Of course, don't do this until AFTER the rules are finalized. Some of the examples in the original MGT seem to have carried over rules that had changed at some point :)

You know what, I'm just going to write up an example and see how it goes. The more I dig into the crunchy bits of the space combat system, the *seem* to have just as many issues as the previous version. The only way to find out is to walk through them and see...and if I'm going to do that I might as well share!

Update: Until I have some questions answered about certain unclear aspects it's not likely I'll do this. Specifically I need to know how multiple missile launchers in a turret work, as the current rules don't seem correct, and once I have official word I'll dot he write up.

I would go ahead with the write up on the rules as written. Even for missiles. It might spark some thoughts on what needs changed. For example, as written I read a double missile turret to do 4d6+4 in damage.

Yes, and logically that makes little to no sense :) There is too much for interpretation for my liking too...I don't want to write something up only to have it shouted down as being wrong. I've already had about enough of that.

Yes, but that would actually be a valuable exercise. The point being it would be useful to understand why and where people are miss-interpreting the rules. Then they can be re-done to assist clarity.

I also believe an actual example of combat play would be useful. It takes working through for anybody to properly understand the rules, and an example makes the process a lot easier. And does speed understanding of points that people might have gotten the wrong end of the stick on in the first instance.
