Sol-Poker with the Enemy

Most of my players and NPC opposition characters/bad guys have Gambler skills...

so I was thinking it might be cool to do a real poker game, in game. Betting Credits and roleplaying the different enemy characters with different styles of play. One might be playing loose, another tight.
(I had to look up the poker terms)

I'd have to work the game into the story quite carefully. Perhaps they get captured or are invited to a James-Bond like Epic Game night. Then I'd just deal the hands with playing cards, and let the roleplay magic fly. Hell, some of the Vargr characters might not even know how to play sol-hold em

And of course the outcome would be important. If the PCs win, the bad guy probably tries to kill them and take their money.
If they loose... worst case scenario they bet their ship in a last ditch effort and loose it. I can't really see them betting the ship.

The amount of intelligence-based Gambler checks that would be going on would be phenominal

Remember that Gambling is not the be-all and end all skill for gambling!

The character is familiar with a wide variety of gambling games, such as poker, roulette, blackjack, horse-racing, sports betting and so on, and has an excellent grasp of statistics and probability.

Or to translate - knowing what's a good hand and what isn't, and how to win entirely within the rules...ish.

Don't hesistate to throw Deception, Persuade and Recon (spotting a telling "twitch") checks in there too! Remember, you don't play the cards, you play the person sat across from you...
