So do we get an announcement this week?

Mongoose
I realize the Gooses feel like they got hit by a truck. And a whole new schedual may take a long time to work out.

But.....can we get a little bit of a hint? Like, is D20 Conan dead in the water? Or does everything now need to have a movie tie in?

Not the whole next year, just a line to let us know if we need to start CPR.

It would be nice to salvage some good news out of this. Hopefully we will see a book or two released if Mongoose isn't going to wash their hands of Conan.
Not that I could blame them, and knowing the company has other lines and projects to devote their resources to.
At least we have plenty of material to run campaigns for years to come. But a word of any possible last efforts would be very welcome news indeed.

While I appreciate the effort at levity given recent days...

Not funny. (As it may be true.)

Thanks for trying, though.

The books we have dont disappear, Az. Neither does your campaign. If you see it as an opportunity to obtain a complete, quality rpg series, things dont seem so bad. And we possibly wont see the series marred by poor supplements. Every cloud.

I may not be the smartest knife in the room, but...

...Does it really matter that much that we're not being sent e-mails or posts about upcoming products?

I mean these folks have a lot of crap to deal with around creating, maintaining and perfecting a RPG system, let alone feed the whining masses their salted meats and ale.

or maybe I don't get "it".

Have no fear, matey; like PrinceYyrkoon said, you'll still have your books. There's a lifetime's worth of gaming there and no mistake. No line lasts forever, true, and it's always a bit sad for fans when a line ends, but the games you play, the campaigns you enjoy (and will enjoy), those can last a lifetime. So even if the line does end (and frankly, no-one knows at this point, so don't feel too disheartened yet), you've still got a lot of good stuff there. :)

I've often seen folks complain about how "X game is dead" when it's no longer being actively published, but as any fan of former editions of D&D can tell you, any fan of games now OOP, the games don't actually die and folks continue to enjoy them for many, many years. Such games can also build up their own self-supporting online communities (such as Dragonsfoot, for example) where a lot of great ideas and materials are produced and shared, so there's nearly always some new material, even if it's not officially published.

I've worked as a freelancer on lines that stopped being actively published, but you know what? Those games still live for me, and for many of the fans who came to love them. Given how many folks are active here on these forums, how many have a clear passion and love for the game, I can't help but think that'd you'd be in very good company regardless of what happens. :)

Still, don't give up hope yet; nothing has been decided, nor has anything been revealed. Keep a stif upper lip, old chap.

cheers!

I am not looking for a detailed list for the next year. Just a simple we are going to release something for Conan in the next little bit. And I also relize there may be nothing at all planned yet. In that case, a simple we dont got nuthin, but we plan to is cool by me.

While nothing Mongoose might do would cause my books to vanish or campaign to close, if given the choice between having the Conan RPG in-print or out-of-print, I'll pick in-print every time.

Just sayin'.

RAC, no a system is still playable, but it is a lot easier to get new players to onne that is still live.

Before the Goose redid Runequest it was very hard to find people that had heard of RQ much less played it. Now, it is only difficult. Samething with Rolemaster. I dont need another forgoten really good system to add to my collection, I have enough already.

Also, by all accounts (i.e. the former release schedule), Empires of Hyboria and Thief Companion should have been ready or close-to-ready to publish. They were pulled because of the "big news". With that rug now pulled, can those books get back on the schedule?

While I'm interested in the answer, obviously, if nothing else it's an example of tidbits that would be nice to know.

Indeed those are two of the things I would like to know about. And I am sure that sooner or later, Matt will get time to pop in for a moment and tell us.

Actualy it is the silence I find ominous. Perhaps nobody knows and that does not seem to be good.

No doubt. Just trying to make you feel a bit better and bring a little sunshine into the gloom. :)

Possibly, but I would expect it to take a little while for any decision to be made after the rug was pulled in such a dramatic manner; it's certainly not a decision you'd rush, and I imagine Mongoose have a lot of factors to weigh up and consider. I certainly wouldn't worry just yet, nor find it ominous, though I know the waiting can be frustrating and seem to take an age.

We know all about Long Cold Waits. Nothing new here. Might want to look around a bit.
