Sneak Peeks Pacific War

Agis

Mongoose
Again a new project: Pacific War. After writing the World at War rule book I am now working on the 1st supplement about the Pacific War.

To provide some fast play test armies I go again the 20 mm road plus the occasional 28 mm mini. I have finished a squad of HäT Gurkhas, 2 Millicast Ha-Gos, 20+ Airfix 1/72 Japanese Army infantry and a Company B Te-Ke tankette so far.

More Airfix 1/72 Japanese are on the table and more 28 mm West Wind Japanese are also primed. So stay tuned...

Agis, a tip if you want to make an interesting Burma-specific set of AFVs for the Brits. The British used the M3 Lee extensively in Burma, but they didn't have the mchine gun cupola of the US vehicles. Its been (aproximately25) years since I built my Hasegawa Grants and Lees so I can't remmeber whether the Lee cupola and Grant turret hatch came as separate and therefore interchangeable pieces like they did with the Airfix kit, bit if they do its a quick and easy conversion to do if you have one of each. A bit harder to do in 15mm using the "Command Decision" range as the turrets come in one piece castings!

There are some useful pictures of Australian M3 Lees (with the same mods) and Grants here:

Probably both I suspect. There were a lot of "theatre variants" for Burma, Borneo etc. that would make both intersting stat variants and model conversions.

Those are some amazing paintjobs as always, Agis. I'm still considering whether to get a WaW army but the IJA is highly tempting...

Do it! :) The IJA is such a nice and different to play force.

The only problem is that Japanese WW II models are less common then German ones...

so far milicast is the only company I have seen that has Japanese models, and judging from their price, they are made of gold, net resin.

also, the milicast is in 1/76 not 1/72 :?

As far as the scale is concerned; for me 1/76 and 1/72 is all 20mm...

Since you are a fellow BSG fan you can appreciate when I tell you "frakin awesome!"I am really looking forward to the next expansion!

Lots of Japanese stuff available in 15mm too, for those of youlike me who are space limited :)

???
Do I really get it right: You are proposing to add vehicle stat variants in the rules based on gun cupola versions?

Not within the scope of the WaW rules for me...

Actually it is, since you already allow pintle mount and non pintle mount installations :)

No, I was referring to the many theatre variant vehicles featuring rather more extensive local modifications which I have no doubt you'll be including in the supplement (things like the Australian Matilda variants, M3 conversions into command tanks, artillery tractors, OPs etc.)

Funny thing, 2 days ago Matt and I had an interesting discussion about how detailed a WaW supplement should be, Matt was all for the broader stroke, while I voted for a "bit" more detail. 8)
But we both agreed that "local modifications" are definately beyound the scope of WaW...

@ Dave: Wait for the OGL and pump in as much detail as you like!

Sounds like a good idea - looks like a Burma / Borneo / XIV Army supplement could be in the offing later this year then :)

Does anyone make those rather whacky Japanese amphibious tanks without the flotation pontoons fitted? I think one manufacturer did in 1/200 but I don't recall seeing any like this in larger scales.
