I recently bought one of the new games workshop "Foundation paints" they are supposed to cover much better than ordinary acrylics. Particularly useful for the tough colours.

I bought their yellow and must say it is VERY good, I applied it over a BLACK undercoat and it covered perfectly with one coat.

Allegedly their red is very good as well.

Just thought i would let you know

i generally hate gw paint, but i have the whole line now and they are worth every penny

The new foundation paints are £2 a pot which is the same price as their ordinary post. Of course £2 is a complete rip off but at least it is less of a rip off than for their ordinary paints as you are getting a very high quallity paint.

Apart from the yellow i have used, anyone got good experiences with their other colours? I am tempted to get the red for my Narn ships.

I have the red, apart from smelling of chockies?! it's pretty decent. Not quite one coat, but still 18 coats less than standard red ;-)

Yeah my yellow smells of something strangely organic, possibly choclate?? Quite strange....

I'm finding the grey immensely useful as a basecoat for paler ships (Hyperion and furies mostly).

I have used the purple from the new GW range to do my FA scale Centauri fleet. I have to say it is the best purple I have found in any paint range. I prefer Vallejo to the standard GW paints but the colour and coverage in the new range is excellent.

I've said it in another post, but if you have the habit of re-pointing you brushes mid paint by licking them, don't. Foundation paints taste really, really, bad. Aside from this, and slightly dodgy lids that let the paint dribble all over the rim, they are cool.

Vallejo Colours do the same and they are ordinary acrilycs.
In fact, ANY ordinary acrylics cover better than GW's colours.

I switched from using GW to Vallejo paints around 5 years ago and have thought that they offer a better deal from a quality and price perspective. However they are not easy for me to obtain and I have also had problems with the paint drying out. So I have needed to purchase GW stuff on occasion to replace some Vallejo bottles.

As for the GW foundation paints, I went and bought the box set after I tried a couple of the colours. They do exactly what GW said they do, though I do suggest using a thinning medium as they dry very quickly. However I would only use them as a basecoat as they colours are a little flat.

Having used a number of different acrylic paints over the years, I think that saying that "any orginary acrylic cover better than GW's colours" is a tad unfair. Personally I think that every range has its strong a weak points coverage and pigment wise.

I use P3 Paints (Privateer Press Paints) and, as far as the non-metallics, GW Foundation paints don't even deserve to be looked at by me anymore. Khador Red Base goes smooth over white and black primer, not to mention evenly and lightly. Cygnus Yellow still needs 2-3 coats, but it is still light and even, putting Bad Moon Yellow to shame.

They also have a very diverse color range, specifically geared towards blending. Their color scheme is unlike any other, and is designed to work with other brands as well. One of the master minds behind the Citadel and Vallejo lines also worked on P3. Also, you won't break these pots nearly as easily as you did with Citadel.
