SlaineTwo

Standing-Stone

Banded Mongoose
Having read the waring that the Runequest core rule book will be taken out of print at the end of this year. I doubt I will evr be able to get myself a copy with out using Amazon.com or Ebay

From what I read of the ariticle, in [b[Signs n Portents[/b] that the changes won't be large.

Though I still feel the need to ask if Runequest Two will need to revise the Slaine Rules

?????

I don't have any inside information, however given the new Lankhmar Unleashed is advertised as being compatible with MRQ and MRQ II, I would guess conversions would be minimal. I would like confirmation of this as well as some info. on what is happening with Slaine. Are there plans to continue it or are they going to drop it?

Matt has already stated in the replies on the State of the Mongoose that it has definately not been dropped but that they don't quite know what do do with it yet.
It appears that Drune Acolyte(Mongoose Acolyte) is avoiding our questions on Baileoisin Chronicles like the plague. I have seen his name crop up in several other threads. Has Slough Sprange threatened him with the Wicker Man if he dares to reply to our cursed Sessair enquiries?

Noticed that too came to the same conclusion.
Must of missed the Slaine bit in The State of...

I wouldn't be adverse to an RQ II Slaine, especially since they are going to Update the Eternal Champion stuff for it. While fans of both, Slaine has to much innate "COOL" to not get a shot at the RQ II stuff as well.

Still one of the biggest hits, at the Con's when we do the demo's.

as long as its in colour I will buy RQII Slaine.
Or failing that at least using BW pictures that were intended to be printed that way. In MRQ Slaine the pictures were from color pictures that were just printed in BW loosing much clarity. I wouldn't have minded seeing those older pics that looked cool in BW, though.

Color worked really well in the Dredd books. As a side note, I'm not one of those folks that actually needs or even wants Art, in my rule books.

However, the Art, is one of the things that is integral to Slaine, especially for presenting the atmosphere. Now if you are lucky enough to live in 2000AD central, Slaine Art is easy to come by.

On my side of the Pond, not so much. So if it's in the book, like it is in Dredd, then that's an easy selling point for a lot of people (though honestly, I've never run a Slaine Demo where I haven't had the horde rush out and come running back with the orange book of Doom and an RQ pocket guide)....

So, some Art in a Slaine II, would be a big selling point for a lot of folks.

I was just looking at Slain when I noticed the RQII news. Sort of gutted that I missed it 1st time round but would deffinitely be interested if it were re-worked for RQII!

As for artwork, Ive always loved B+W Inks, the strontium dog book really hit the spot for me even if art was a bit sparse. I like the Traveller book to which is minimal and clear.

I was just thinking, wouldn't Slaine Themed dice be cool.

Something with pictures of battle axes or in the shape of severed heads.

Perhaps translucent with Slaine related 3D images trapped inside them.

Considering the latest Slaine progs about Amber Smuggling

Dice made from translucent amber.

Baltic Amber Dice.....

Personally art is one selling point to me. I don't mind if it is BW or color as long as it is good and gives out the right kind of feel.

The funny thing about fluff and art is that beside being good they should be able to imitate mechanically. With this I mean that the game mechanics should allow for the things that you see in the pictures and fluff of the game.

This applies to Slaine as well as to other games, too.

And yes, I live in an unfortunate part of the world where it is very hard to get any 2000AD stuff any more. The latest Slaine material was the Invasion trilogy, IIRC.

I know that Mongoose is only furthering and zapping some new life into their products but this seems to be a current theme with all companies at the moment. I unfortunately cannot continue to purchase new versions of information I already own once or twice (in the case of Slaine and Judge Dredd). I have purchased all but a few of the more recent RQ releases and I just cannot find myself buying anymore. And with the current state of Slaine I am not ready to put forth more cash if we don't see more books to support the line. Again owning all the D20 books and the RQ book and not seeing any new material makes me doubtful a RQII release is even worth it.

It's always worth it. If anything, to fish in the new folk out there that might otherwise stray into yon horror of 4th ed DnD or some such.

Well when you put it that way then yeah ANYTHING to stop the new generation of RPG'ers to get hooked on that D&D 4th ed dren.

This last Gencon, we were able to get two full tables of Slaine Rookies hooked, and they all went down to the booth and snagged everything RQ and Slaine they could get their meathooks into.

I was having my Dredd Games, return for Pick Ups, with not only Dredd and Traveller in their new book pile, but RQ and Slaine.

These weren't all Older players like myself either, but new bloods, that were there at Gencon, SPECIFICALLY, to play 4e in the Open.

And they preferred Slaine (followed very closely by RQ core stuff, and the RQ pirates as well)....

So, I'm all for a Slaine 2. After all, the PROPER Axe, uses two hands.

That is good to hear Rex and at this point like I said before I probably won't jump on board right away until I see some more Slaine support after a RQII version comes out. HOWEVER that being said if the book is a HUGE gorgeous hardcover in full freaking colour and oozes Slaine then I will most likely break down and grab it. I have been resisting but I the new Dredd has been rather tempting.

I'd be for, Leather Clad, Gilded edges, Slip Cover Combo of RQII and SLAINE 2 in a nice bundle set myself, toss in a Slaine Graphic Novel as well for a teaser slap a big number on it and rake in the money, then make a PDF version for the other folks. I'd also do up a bunch of vinyl book covers like the old Dragonskins, and market those as well with cool Slaine Art.

You could bundle up all the Alternate RQII product that way, and gamers, we like fancy things. It's when we gotta pay 80 bucks for something NOT FANCY that we grumble about things like price.

Properly "dressed" and demonstrated, then marketed, RQII and Slaine (or Eternal Champion, or Glorantha) could easily smite the evil, made for the lowest common denominator, 4ed stuff off the face of the planet.

I agree with Dathi.
I have purchased everything that I can in Slaine D20 but still cannot find some stuff.
(Did they ever publish the Finian Tribe book? I have all of them except this one. Not to mention "Dinas Emrys - The Eternal Fortress", which was mentioned in the core books but never published.)

I have also bought the RuneQuest Slaine book but found that most of it was the same stuff from the other books.

There seems little point in buying yet another rule book when the first rules Slaine D20 are not complete, and RuneQuest will probably go the same way.
