Slaine - How do you say...

Hi all.

Just a quick question, I've just been reading the MRQI Slaine book, to use parts of it with my next game, and was surprised that there was no pronouncation guide to the celtic words in it (unless I've missed it...).

I mean I can make a guess from how they are written, but I know how tricky them celtic words are, not always sounding how they are written. But for a simple starter, how do you say 'Enech' ?

Can anyone suggest a good pronouncation guide to get or find ?

I think there were a few in the Slaine comics themselves. Sometimes when somebody name like Niamh or Mebd is used it's accompanied by the pronouciation as a footnote.

I think you will find these snippets of information mostly in Slaine the King and perhaps Time Killer. I know the latter comes with it's own lexicon guide.

What you won't find is pronouciation for the word Enech. It's never been used in any of the original Slaine Chronology.

For this word, I would try and track down Ian Sturrock, if he was the orignal author for Dtwenty Slaine.

Not that I ever liked words and concepts outside the Slaineiverse . However revelant they might be to everything Celtic.

I supposed something was need to fill in the gaps.

Just like using frog DNA to complete the dinosaur equation.

Slightly my fault for not looking, but after I had posted this, I remembered I had the old d20 version, and in deed there is a guide at the back of that covering most things.

Enech, it says should be pronounced with the'ch' sounding like the ch in loch (not as ch in church).

So I guess thats something that sounds like 'KNO-CK', 'NE-CK' or 'EN-OCK' ? Anyone have any ideas ?

I gaelic has anything to do with it the E is pronounced like the e in bet or hen and the -ch is a throaty sound not normally used in english.

I never bother checking or recalling wether the DTwenty rule book had a pronounciation guide myself.

So, ENECH is most likely how I have been saying it.

E - NEK
