Show me the snipers!

I was thinking that of any game this one is best suited to the use of snipers. Especially for the MEA. :) I thought we could use this thread to showcase sniper rules, technology and tactics. I'll get things started with one of my favorite topics; Big Guns!.

The American Barret XM500 .50 cal.

The Steyr AMR1. This one is 15mm and fires a Fin Stabalised Discarding Sabot round. Up-armored Hum-v? Don't think so...

And my personal favorite, the British AS50 being developed for the US Navy SEALS and capable of hitting a man-sized target at two miles.

Oh, you are not wrong - snipers are something else in this game, and we already have a counter sniping article on stand by for S&P.

The SAS and Force Recon squads both have designated marksmen, but dedicated sniper teams are coming. . .

"You know how you smoke out a sniper? You send a guy out in the open and you see if he gets shot. They thought that one up at West Point."

must be hard to find volunteers !!!

I saw a story in WW2 where a US Navy Destroyer used it's 5" gun for anti-sniper work. Saw something moving in a tree close to shore a put shell into it. The Marines reported the sniper stopped shooting at them.

Incidentally, while the counter sniping article is not 'official', I recommend you all to try it when it is published - snipers start fighting their own private battle :)

As cool as it would have been to have that 25mm sniper cannon when I was in, I'll stick to my M40, thank you very much. At least that way I know I won't break my shoulder everytime I fire the thing and I won't have every other sniper knowing where I am after each shot...

Still, she is pretty...

And fires two types of ammo... note the different colors.

25mm HEDP ammunition and they're working on using the same Air Burst ammo the OICW was going to use.

Something seen on Future Weapons tonight, the Barrett .416. Longer range and more accurate then the .50 BMG. Capable of hitting a man sized target at 2500 yards!

Olin arms made a round in the eighties for the .50 that would penetrat a soft vehicle and turn it inside out. I can't remember the name of it but it made me apply to Olin when I got out of college :D

For my money: M40... Ooo-Rah! You just can't beat the overall combination of range/takedown/disapear and the lovingly handcrafted ammo.

Several outfits have announced new rounds for both the main battle rifle calibers and the anti-vehicle calibers in the last year.

My guess is that within a year there will be a 2 mile .308 kill and a 3 mile .50 that they'll only be able to confirm with RPV footage!
