Many 3d printers today are open, so products can actually be extruded beyond the printer's internal volume. Then there are the printers that are completely open frame...

It's worse than that. Just a few sentences away it talks about how low-TL fabricators are exactly like modern 3D printers when this is obviously contradicted on the same page of the book.

Does TL-13 make things all automatically change shape?

Edit - My bad. Less snark. Show me the rule where a TL-13 Fabricator or other tool changes its shape. That way I will learn something new that will likely change how I look at the Traveller Universe.

No: you are quite right that the rules never suggest in any way that you can use the same 100l capacity fab to create a single object that’s 100 metres x 1mm x 1mm and also a human shaped object. That would be so silly that they don’t even have to say it out loud.

Edit: to be clear, I never said that the fab could change dimensions. I disagree with your assertion that “because it’s not denied it must be true” because - reductio ad absurdism as above - that’s a wild leap of capability to just say “well it doesn’t say that it can’t!”

Then why do ships not require different jump drives based on their shape? Or the inertial dampers from the M-drives? They only require drives based on their volume and drives can be moved from one ship to another with no restriction other than volume.

This is insane deflection. It’s an absolutely desperate attempt to avoid dealing with what you cannot deny.

They are the same game system. It's called Traveller. If you can manage to read the name of the game on the cover of your books, it should help clear this up. Also, they both involved using dimensions versus using only volume. If you can't see that, then maybe you should have your mom or your hospice nurse read it to you.

It is an insane deflection only because you don't seem to understand it. J-Drives, M-Drives, Fabricators, Sensors, Turrets, Bays, Cargo. Literally everything in MgT2 Traveller is based on volume and not dimensions.

Nice attempt to gaslight, but you are not smart enough to use actual facts. Go read the books again.

Making jokes about hospice nurses just to deflect is probably the worst thing I’ve seen on a forum in the past year.

I’m aware you are neurodivergent and you’ve mentioned this on the forums in the past. But that’s really not an acceptable line to use and will not win you anything you want to win. You don’t know what the people you’re posting about and others who are reading your posts are going through.

I don't know what they are going through, nor do I care. Considering people to be stupid instead of malicious is me being nice. It is the only way to live as an American right now. To do anything else would lead to bloodshed and civil war. That is My reality 24/7, but as I said, that is not something that you should care about on these forums.

I believe that this was your attack, so I can do likewise. I also responded with examples from the books. You responded with calling Me insane and desperate. Then you want to go and be mad about Me responding. Go cry to your hospice nurse! ha ha ha ha! See? I can do it too.
 
Fabrication Chambers can only print inside their volume (which if you read CSC ARE defined by dimensions - you choose how the 10cm^3 units are arranged and it DOES mention the issue of not being able to print something that exceeds the actual chamber dimensions).

External Fabricators don't have that restriction, or at least have less restrictions. Just turn the page and read up.

Start on the bottom of the foot and as the "leg" starts to get too long extend the finished part outside the chamber.

Then what you are describing is an External Fabricator. No problem. Buy one of those... except that complex biological prints are done in Bioreaction Chambers before TL17.

And note that pre-TL17 External Fabricators are capped at TL -3 output. A TL16 external fabricator could conceivably do TL13 "simple biomechanical" output, but not a TL15 one.

Mongoose needs to clean up their rules. I was using the Fabricators in the Robot Handbook while you were using the ones in the CSC. :(
