Shadow Issues... Also can someone explain Crits and Shadows?

Pinning is much nastier than that - you don't move or take any actions including firing in the turn you are pinned and the next............unless you kill the pinning ship.

Sharlin has rear NL,

I don't have my book in front of me, what are the effects of being pinned? If one is a movement penalty, he'll get a good bit more than 30% of the time.

Does the Sharlin have a rear NL?

That aside, I would think that you will not be able to approach from the side unless you jump in on him. Sharlin starts in a edge of the map area. If you start out in front of him he simply all stops, if you move in he'll get arc and be eligible for all stop and pivot. If you start out off set, he simply turns into the arc you will approach from and you start again with the above. Yes he's lumbering but that just makes him more a turret than not able to turn.

Second is that you do still have to penetrate stealth, in the case of the shadow and two stalkers that's only maxing out at a reduction of 3 if your standing on him, so 3+ then if you make it 2+ for the other ships... not a big chance, but still an issue. Add in that fighter wing....not a small wing with two sharlins either and the tit for tat starts looking less sure even with primarily mini beams.

Anyway, just don't want the guy thinking it should have been a cake walk for him, it's actually a pretty tough fight, with the first turn going against the shadows most often, second being dependent on if anything got pinned, and only in the third do we start to see clean shadow superiority in placement.

Not implying it is a cakewalk by any means. A Sharlin certainly can destroy a young shadow ship if given half a chance, but they key is not to give him that chance. If he stays in the corner and doesn't move, you don't approach either. If you do, you are playing his game. There is exactly zero reason why you should ever do that. Shadows need room to maneuver. If you can't get to a flank, don't attack that round. Any point damage you do to him stays with him until the scenario ends. Damage to you is only temporary.

The thing that gets shadows killed more than anything else is thinking that you can take anything and survive and thinking you have to attack. Shadows are quite tough but they aren't that tough. Fly them like the Shadows in the show. They were patient. They attacked out of nowhere then retreated. They never engaged in a standup fight if they could avoid it.

Couldn't agree with Tzarevitch more. Shadow ships will lose a straight fight against almost anyone.

They are also one of the fleets most skilled at never offering anyone a chance of a fair fight.

Duck and weave behind terrain. Make him come to you. Wait for him to advance then dart into weak arcs. Shadow shields/self repair combo makes them almost immune to pot-shots from secondary weapons, but their low damage score and pinning rule makes them very vulnerable to primary beam weapons.

If you ever have to face a minbari fleet across a wide, open board, you're probably dead before you pick the dice up.

My point was that given the range difference getting to the flank is not easy, and that once your are in the flank staying there won't be a cake walk either as the ship is double ended as far as beams go. It's not like some ships that are front toward enemy and once you get behind you'll stay there.

The shadows only have three ships to the Minbari two...not much of an advantage. Unless you have good terrain and the Minbari let you have it, dust/asteriods making it harder to target the stealthy guys, it cuts both ways.

If he hides in the corner I'd agree, but if he starts in a corner and comes out from there to meet the shadows you shouldn't see the flank until turn 3, that was all, and he should get one/two good shots our of the approach.

What I should have done was choosen 4 Shadow Scouts and put my Young Shadow ship in hyperspace and have it come in on a flank or rear.

That would have been the opportune thing to do especially since there wasn't any terrain.
