Mongoose
Finally got around to breaking out the Xacto blades and files tonight and I am happy to discover some positive properties of the resin that Mongoose uses.
Has anyone else made any discoveries on the hobby side of things?
- It can be filed quite handily. I am used to other resin models that cannot be filed without destroying a ton of detail.
It reacts easily to hot water, becoming soft and bendable. All of my Klingon cruisers had wings that were curved upwards in the back. Maybe as a result of how the model lays in storage? In any case, it was a simple matter to dip each wing into a cup of recently boiled hot water for about 15 seconds, bend the wing flat, then run cold water over it to set.
The models I have also have a few air-bubble craters in them, but the resin seems to leave a sharp edge which works wonderfully with the old modeler's trick of rubbing paraffin over the bubble. The edges scrape paraffin off, filling the holes.
