Set of Mongoose Traveller books on Ebay - low prices

I would guess since they are practically unused he hasn't been getting enough gaming action to justify keeping them. Wish they were for sale in the US, I'd bid on a couple.

I have decided to play only Classic Traveller and have been collecting all that again after selling it ages ago. I am getting rid of my Mongoose stuff as I dont really like it as much as CT.

Classic Traveller is my personal version of choice as well, but I found a lot of data in MgT that can easily port over to expand the options. Just off the top of my head ...

1. the rules on using Computers to buy speculative cargo online.
2. the 10 dT bridge for small starships.
3. Slug Throwing weapons for starships.

That's why I like to get the MgT PDFs to mine for inspiration.

Either way, good luck with the sale and have fun playing Traveller.

Cheers I love Classic Traveller and always have since I got it way back in the early 80s. I tried Mongoose and its not bad at all but for what I do theres no point have two versions. I ended up trying to constantly decide which one to use and so I have made a decision. BEsides I cant remember half of the MGT rules anyway.

I am not into having a choice of ten different versions of ACR. The basic ACR is fine the way it is for me. Similarly for all the other things MGT have expanded - they are pretty much fine for me in CT already. And CT was always designed to be expandable by the player so if I really felt the need to buy cargo online I dont feel I need to have Mongoose tell me to be able to do it. And as for slug throwing weapons for starships I think thats just daft. I will make my own laser pistol etc I dont need MGT to provide that info for me.

I prefer to have short concise rules that provide a base for me to develop my gaming. CT has always provided that - in fact its the way Traveller was designed to be all those years ago. I just feel like getting back to basics and sod the millions of written rules that MGT is demanding I remember.

Nats, I've come to the very same conclusion as you, but I do buy Mongoose books to supplement on ocassion. Frex, the newest books will really make my game sing: dynasty, 760 patrons and the campaign guide ...

What is so different abot classic traveller... I am sad to say that mongoose traveller is the first traveller game I ever played

Fewer fiddly bits, extra, extra extra options and so on.

I cut down the combat to make it even simpler (no combat tables) and have a simple vehicle combat houserule. I do the same with starship combat, but you can easily do that with CT and not break it.

For some of us old people Classic Traveller is the first one we bought so we see it as the best. Mongoose pulled everything together quite well but in doing so they also increased the complexity a bit too much for me. But for people new to Traveller I would recommend they try it as theres not much reason to go back to Classic Traveller unless you have a bit of nostalgia like me. I just love those books.

But yeah the MGT Campaign Guide book may be of interest to me depends on whether its too MGT orientated or not. And there may be others so I will keep an eye on what they produce.

Agreed! If I were getting into Traveller today, no doubt at all I'd be picking up Mongoose's excellent version.

nats, just noticed .. you're in Pocklington. I'm in Bridlington. Well its a bloody small world :)

That is amazing it is a small world. I didnt think anyone would live around here that likes Traveller. Now if we could only find another two people near York we could start a game up :-)

I lived in york until very recently, and now live in manchester...

EDIT: also, I want to set up a traveller PbP at some point... any suggestions?

Aye! Currently roleplaying with my sons (age 12 + 15), with Traveller on the cards for this summer.
