Sell me on MC1

I used to play Necromunda quite heavily (from GW), and this game looks very very similar. How does it play, and most importantly, whats similar or different from old Necro ?

Basically, tell me why I should buy this game and how cool it is :)

I used to play Necro. until my group decided it was too luck driven and with a few lucky rolls becomes hidiously unfair. We played for about six months strait and then never touched it again. Loved the concept but the rules are for a larger scale game and this makes it a little clunkity-clunk. Gangs Of Mega-City One is a streamlined system that is fair/ balanced and above all bloody as hell. Everyone starts on the same page and has access to the same gear. The great thing about the gear is that everything adds Reputation to your Gangers...so, if you want to have several of the best guns you get penalized for it. We (my gaming group of eight.) have been playing Gangs for about two years or so and every game is different. It's all about using what you have against your opponents cunning plan of the week. Gangs has quickly become the game of choice for us and in fact we play no other games at the moment. Being so driven to have the toughest street gang going. The game is fast/easy to learn and most of all it's a hoot to play. Most Necro. guys don't switch over, in my experience, due to some perverse sence of brand loyalty. Don't let it be you! Get the box set and use your old Necro. figs and you'll be playing that afternoon! Do it! :D

Well, I have no particular brand loyalty. GW isnt supporting Space Hulk anymore, and the only warhammer stuff I play is 3rd edition Warhammer fantasy battle, 2nd edition and Rogue Trader 40K :)

I'll definately put this on the christmas order list

Another question: Can you play multi player battles ? I have a couple of friends that would be into this, and having a mad, 4-5 way battle would be outstandingly fun

There is a multi-player scenario where your gangs fight the Judges. Very hard to win but oh so satisfing to scrag a helmet or two! :D

Also, when I run demos of Gangs I usually play 4-6 player multi-gang fights. As long as there is some good cover to be had the games work out well. If your idea of "well" is shooting and stabbing the heck out of your buddies!

I love necromunda, it was my all time favourite game.

I play GOMC-1 now :)

That do ya?

The game balance comes from the persecution anyone doing well recieves from other players. As soon as you get something good, it gets stolen from you. And one player doing really well doesn't turn into a campaign noone else can win, as anyone feeling they can't do well calls the judges. :)
Basically it's so unfair that everything balances out in the end!

ONe tip, you've got to be ruthless when you play, that makes for the best campaigns.

Other best bit: weapon rules, as long as a model has a rifle you can arm it with any rifle, the reasoning being, who's to say a laser rifle couldn't look like a flintlock an M16 or a stormtrooper blaster? Means you can use almost any model.

Just get it, it's cheap enough to give a go, you should be hooked. Most of the failings of necro are ironed out: more skills, more flexible gangs, take a wider range of equipment, excellent specialists etc...

I'd say, to put it in the simplest terms possible (and hence be less than perfectly accurate)...

GoMC1 is Necromunda, with the campaign speeded up.
And Judges.

Personally I think it's on-par with 1st ed Necromunda, but as it's faster a campaign tends to run smoother.
It's much, much better than 2nd ed Necromunda.
Pretty much anything you could do in 'munda you can do in GoMC1. And more, probably.

buy it now or the small fluffy animal gets it !!!!!

that or il torment you with images from brave star !!!

I gotta say, I am a devout Necro player, and always will be, for me its nothing to do with the brand, its a great game (just started a campaign in my new club).
But I also have GofMC1, and will be getting em all into that.

I have played both, and find them both really enjoyable games. I dont feel the need to Criticise either game to boost the benifits of the other.

If you like Necro, you will like this game, if you like necro and grew up with JD and 2000AD you will love this game.
:D

Im looking for a sell into possibly buying into GOMC1 too.

I honestly didnt enjoy Necromunda, the game seemed like a watered down version of 40k, the additional rules that made it a skirmish game were pretty lame in my opinion, nothing special at all, and I had felt like I had wasted my money on it.
And the campaign aspect really killed it for me, spending more time adjusting the gang after each battle then actually playing.
And then it came to times where it was just tactically better to bottle out ASAP for the survivability of the gang.

What Id like to know is about the combat system of GoMC1 and how it runs, that I think will be the major selling point.
Ive got SST and I like the system of that, and wonder if they share any similarities.

Started off with 'munda. Found GoMC1 with no interest in JD at all. Found the minis humourous, so I bought it.
Now I am a dreddhead!

Same here, except that I never played Necromunda.
Used to play WH Battle, but that was a loooong time ago.

I own and play three Mongoose games (ACTA, SST and GoMC1) and Gangs is in my very humble opinion the one that gives me the most fun overall and especially the most fun/€ ratio of them all.
