Scratchbuilt G'Quan

Anthallas

Mongoose
Hi.

I'm too poor to buy a G'Quan model, so I had to make one all by myself.;)

Well, anyway, this is sculpted from greenstuff + various bits and pieces and plastic card. It has a lot of little flaws, most of them (hopefully) hard to detect tough. I took about... lets say 20 hours to build and 1,5 h to paint. I have to admit that I haven't scuplted any detail at the bottom.

Pictures could be better too.:)

WOW!!!

just.... WOW!!

That is fan-smegging-tastic!

Sorry Prelude but I think you've just been dethroned as the master of the scratch built ACTA ship ;)

Very nice dude, I'd like to see some more photos, even if they might show rougher detail, some close ups would be good for letting us see processes.

Is that in scale to the current Mongoose G-Quan? Looks like it judging from the base size.

Excellent work. I'd love to see pics of the building process!

I guarantee that this model cost more than the mini, unless you work for 10 cents an hour.

It's a great model though - well done. Respect :P

If this isn't some kind of wind up then I 2nd others comments.

a) That is one lovely model, reall really lovely model.

b) someone at Mongoose hire him he is MUCH better than whoever did that Drakh Rubbish, Hope I am not being too harsh there. Not to mention most of the current moulds which appear to be years past their sell by date.

Ok. I have added more pictures here (Same place as the last ones, so maybe one hit of F5 might be in order:). There are some big ones too, for those who really want to see all the little mistakes I have made;);) And spots I have left unpainted.

Including also some of my little but proud fleet^^

Sadly I don't have any pictures taken during the sculpting. I was too busy actually sculpting;) Also at the beginning it looked rather bad and at the end I was too enthuastic to get to paint the thing for stopping to take pictures;)

How this come to be. Well. I live in Finland and I don't have a credit card. So frankly its rather difficult get my hands on the models. I have also played WH and other miniatyre games for countless of years, including some sculpting and a lot of painting. So I tought: "Well, If I cannot order the minis, maybe I can make one myself". After thinking it trough i decided that my skill would be sufficient and it would also otherwise be doable.

I started with searching for good pictures in the web and when I found some, I started to sculpt... lets say an early scetch of the model. I cut a piece of plastic card and build the crude shape of the ship on it. My planning was almost non-existant so I had to add a little bit there, cut something off from shomewhere else and so on. It took quite a bit before I had the hull that was of the right shape, size and even relatively symmetrical.

After that I added the details and smooth surfaces. The reactor or whatever that round thing in the middle is, is actually a shield from a GW dwarf. I also used some other random plastic parts and metal wire. The wings err... whatever, are plastic card that I heated with a candle and bent to shape. Then I fixed everything unexpected that a such heat does to a plastic with more greenstuff;)

After that I painted the thing and posted It on forums all over the net just to feel good about myself;)

More respect. Great shading!

Mongoose should have you sculpt AND paint their models. No really, why hasn't Mongoose made a call out for better paint jobs of their models? Mine are loads better than what they show on their site, and Anthallas is better still.

Mongoose should enlist our help (I could offer some time to PROOFREAD if nothing else!)

Your whole fleet is scratch-built? Total respect. Painted very well too I should add. The T'rakks look very cool - I'm definitely looking forward to more of your work.

Dwarf shield huh? Nice! Maybe I can put some of this High Elf crap I have to use...

Really NICE JOB!! :D

I wish the G'Quan's that came in my fleet box looked half as good as those beauties, maybe then I wouldn't whine so much about casting quality :)
