How do people play the scout attack re-roll rule?

We had used this in the last game, and at the time had some debate about how it worked. Having had another more careful read through it I think I have it.

Scout nominates target and makes crew check. Fine.

What then?

1. Does the scout nominate a weapon system on each ship that might fire on the target, not knowing yet what will or will not actually fire on that target. This seems painful (having to record each system that will get the re-roll).

2. Does it just say all photons, all phaser 1s. And any of those that fire get to re-roll. This goes against the use of 'weapon system' else where (i.e. a single line).

3. Does it do nothing, but any ship that subsequently fires on the target can choose a weapon line, at the point of firing, to re-roll. This also seems easy enough, and is what I think is intended.

Once you have a scout lock-on each ship as it comes to fire nominates its one weapon system (single line on the stat card) that gets the re roll.

For most people this is going to be the Photon blocks on the fed ships since aside from one variant every other Fed ship has all the photons on one line. Form many Disruptor ships they have a single block so these will likewise be a good choice. Phasers are less so but a number of ships have a block of Phasers forward that is a good choice.

I look at it that once you have the lock on the scout does nothing else and it is for each firing ship to decide, when it fires, what gets the re roll.

The Scout trait is in the main rule book but no official ships as yet have the ability - the errata did give one station the trait.

I am guessing they are using some made up ships 8)

We were playing base assault style scenario. 1500 pts klingons attacking a 1500 pt fed force (out of which a BATs had to be bought)
