Scout Preview?

So..while we're waiting around for the actual thing...can we get a preview...Pleeeaaase!
According to Planet Mongoose, the actual thing is now likely to appear
around the middle of February.

Be fair guys, the book is done - but until it gets approved, we can't do anything!

Still, look over here! Perhaps Beltstrike coming out will distract you from Scout's delay :)

Oh, I do not complain at all. :D

Indeed, February is what I hoped for, so I will be quite happy to get the
book then, preferably together with The Universe of Babylon 5.

Beltstrike took a bit long, but these two are quite in time for me. :)

I play a Scout/Merchant oriented game, not a Belter oriented game.

But to be honest, what I would most like to see are books which are of high quality - well edited - and on time.

Now if that means announcing fewer books, then announce fewer books. Mongoose has a notorious reputation for poorly edited books which almost always come out months after they were promised.

The timeframe for Scouts is a perfect example, as it was originally promised for ... Nov 08 I think it was. Then pushed to Dec then Jan now Feb.

So, looking at Psion and Hammer Slammer - how about changing their "promised for" dates now.

Mongoose can never look bad if a book which is promised for July comes out in May. They *always* look bad if a book promised for May comes out in June.

This is something we covered in depth in the State of the Mongoose. Suffice to say, slippages have been greatly arrested over the past few months, and will be all but non-existant by March/April.

As for Scout, it has just been approved, and will go to print tomorro!

I don't mind if books only come out once a month or so. I know that waiting is a killer, but my budget's been shot to pieces lately, and it's good to give my bank balance time to recover, seeing as it costs me almost as much to travel to Manchester as it does to buy the books.

I guess, one day, I'll have to get myself a PayPal account and buy the books mail order, or get them as PDFs from Drivethru ... but I still prefer the old skool feel of dead tree books in my hand.

Even if I do have a wallet screaming afterwards.

Besides, I'm used to this. There have been delays with RPG books since the industry first started.

PDFs just don't smell right....

You can always order the paper books direct from Mongoose.

Sorry, zorlak21, but this avatar could cause some problems, you really
should exchange it for something with no copyright protection on it.

Or at least one that isn't advertising for a completely different game company...

Well, now that Beltstrike is out, I have a feeling that I'll be making my way back to Manchester soon enough.

And ordering directly through Mongoose sounds more and more likely as the economic squeeze bites, too, though I'm keeping that as a last minute thing. I do love my little shopping trips. You meet so many interesting people on the train. :)
