Scoundrel book?

Mongoose
Matt mentioned that there was a Scoundrel book on the way... any clues as to what that's going to cover?

Matt's said that pirates are getting their own book (gotta have room for the pirate ghosts, after all), so I'm guessing it's brother in laws, mooches, winos, and similar types.

greatstuff 8) 8)

this sounds really cool

I just wish Mongoose would stop putting out so many cool books
as I need to find the money to pay for them all

Umm, that is not what we are doing - Scoundrel does not cover sub-careers, but two full careers (Rogues and Drifters). Furthermore, it replaces nothing from the main rulebook, and characters created with a career book in hand will be no better than those created from rulebook alone.

I would hope that Barbarians are separated from Drifters in this career expansion. They aren't quite Drifters enough, in my opinion.

They could, if they'd been outcast from their tribes and forced to wander the world alone, seeking whatever adventure they can find with their trusty steel blade by their side etc etc ...

True, but IMO a barbarian who remains within the tribe is not a drifter.

Though, indeed, a barbarian may not even be tribal - he may be an Assyrian, or a Roman, or even an Anglo-Norman circa 1176!

Indeed, barbarians who remain within the tribe do not become Travellers - they just become the poor mooks who carry spears to an FGMP fight.

Barbarians who become Travellers are more like Slaine and Conan: fulfilling a romantic ronin role. They might have the crown of tribal leadership waiting for them on their return home, but first they have much wandering of the lands beyond the sky to do, in order to, erm, find themselves and, erm ...

well, actually, if's because there's already a tribal leader, with a hundred thousand loyal mooks at his disposal and a half empty coffer (the wanderer has the other half and he'd have had more if he'd not been spotted), and also one very angry and heavily pregnant eldest daughter with a paring knife who'd like to have words with him. Also, several painful stabbings in sensitive areas of the wanderer's body ...

I'm looking forward to this book, too. :)

Concentrating on Rogue and Drifter careers, Scoundrel brings to life some of the most favoured characters in Traveller – those who avoid legitimate lines of work, who straddle the grey areas of the law. Expanding the Rogue and Drifter careers, Scoundrel shows you just how to survive in a universe that insists on everyone doing an honest day’s work, without actually having to work for it. From confidence tricksters and gamblers to smugglers and thieves, Scoundrel is an essential companion for any Rogue or Drifter.

I don't know why, but I'm getting the impression that this book might be about Rogues and Drifters...

Oh - so it covers Megacorporation CEOs and others Executives? :D

(Seriously, on a similiar slant I do think there is a place for Bureaucrats and Politicians along with a Forms supplement)
[please note the spelling pun - it was a typo!]

I am honestly really excited for when this comes out. I'll wait for the .pdf format though, as I then don't have the book sitting around. (I'm still looking forward to when Scout and Prison Planet gets out in .pdf, too!)

Dear Gods, not a forms supplement. Remember the CT forms supplement? I'm surprised anyone else would ... *rolleyes*

Actually - I loved the CT Forms Supplement :o

(The Subsector and World Map Grids are quite ubiquitous and came from this supplement as far as I know.)

I like props like ID badges and Bonds - they make it more interactive for the players - and allow the Referee to talk while the players read details (or foolishly decide not to).

Properly done, they move the play along at a more rapid pace and allow referees to focus on narrative and expose the details for the players to discover...

With the forms ability in PDFs these are even more useable today.
