Samardan Press Announces New Traveller SRD Products For 2008...

Samardan Press is happy to announce their support of the forthcoming Traveller SRD with a new line of Science Fiction products starting this summer. The Flynn's Guides product line supports the Traveller SRD, providing campaign material and rules to empower you as the Referee to create an exciting and entertaining Science Fiction gaming experience!

Over the remainder of 2008, Samardan Press intends to release the following Flynn's Guides in both PDF and POD:

Flynn's Guide to Azri Drakara: A rich and developed sector sourcebook introducing Samardan Press's new science fiction campaign setting. This Guide provides maps and world data for over 500 worlds in the Azri Drakara sector, as well as information on the races, governments and corporations your characters are likely to encounter. To aid the Referee, this Guide also contains adventure suggestions, sixteen adventure scenarios and a complete adventure to introduce players to this vibrant new setting.

Flynn's Guide to Robots: Rules for Robots! This Guide provides additional rules for the creation and maintenance of robots, as well as an extensive selection of robots for use in any science fiction campaign. Don't be surprised if there aren't a few adventure scenarios as well!

Flynn's Guide to Interstellar Adventure: More adventure awaits! This Guide provides more adventure support for the Azri Drakara campaign setting, with adventure scenarios, wildlife encounters, complete one shots and even an extended adventure. Although intended for use with the Azri Drakara campaign setting, these adventures can easily be used in any science fiction campaign!

Flynn's Guide to the Covenant of Discipline: A cultural/polity sourcebook for the Azri Drakara setting! This Guide explores the Covenant of Discipline, a militant theocracy known for their sweeping acceptance of psionics. Forged in the aftermath of the Psionic Rebellion, the Covenant is the last bastion of the rogue psions that once attempted to overthrow the Draconian Republic. Referees and players alike will enjoy the complete world maps and data for the member worlds of the Covenant of Discipline, as well as cultural information on the Holy Army of Discipline, the Disciplined Knights and the Followers of the Way. This Guide will contain a new character career path, eight patron scenarios and even a complete adventure to introduce players to these militant psions.

Check back with us for more information on other Flynn's Guides, products for your sci-fi gaming needs!

Brought to you from the creator and editor of the Stellar Reaches fanzine, supporting Traveller in all its forms!

I will most probably be very interested in Flynn's Guide to Robots, but I
will have to figure out how to order it and pay for it, since I do not have
a credit card and had a couple of questionable experiences with PayPal.

Ah, well, where there is a wish, there will be a way ... :D

Having scanned through chartered space;

I can't find the Azri Drakara sector. Any hints as to where it is?

It sounds all very interesting Flynn. I look forward to some previews.

It'll be ATU/non-OTU under the OGL, therefore it won't be on the map of Charted Space.

As a third-party publisher, you cannot publish anything in the OTU. Therefore, the Azri Drakara sector is an ATU. I have placed it approximately six sectors to rimward of Sol, in the event that you might want to use it concurrently with any other Traveller product that you own.

Some background:

In the early days of interstellar exploration, mankind found itself waging a series of interstellar wars. Colonists seeking to leave the overcrowded conditions of the core worlds fled in various directions. Our story follows those colonists that travelled rimward. Some ships settled along the way, but the bulk of the colony ships in this armada finally stopped at an Earth-like world that they promptly named Dracos. Over a period of several centuries, the colonists prospered and Dracos expanded into the nearby interstellar neighborhood. At first, the Dracosians expanded as an Empire, but about four hundred years ago, a Civil War brought the Empire almost to total collapse. Reforming a republic, the Dracosians slowly expanded once more. The Republic has suffered little internal turmoil until twenty years ago, when psionics following the Way of Discipline launched a religious crusade against the government in open rebellion. The Psionic Rebellion, or Psycker's War, as it is sometimes called, was quelled, and many dissadents have fled outside the borders of the Dracosian Republic to forge a new polity, the Covenant of Discipline.

At the current time, the Dracosian Republic occupies a region in space slightly larger than a sector. A portion of the Republic extends into the Azri Drakara sector, where a reptilian warrior race known as the Drakar have established their own quadrant-sized empire. A number of other alien races have smaller polities in the sector, including a race that claims to be the children of the ancient Progenitors, an alien race that once inhabited this region of space before vanishing, leaving behind only ruins and unanswered questions.

A majority of the setting has been developed to allow you as a Referee to use what some call your standard Traveller adventure themes in an OGL environment, if that is your wish. It just takes a little elbow grease.

However, enough is different in the setting that you can also create new adventures and concepts without being burdened by the restrictive nature of a highly defined setting. This is a frontier sector, and offers exploration as well as mercantile and mercenary opportunities.

I definitely intend to support the setting with lots of adventure ideas, supplements and the like as we move along. I'm also open to feedback, so feel free to voice your thoughts on ideas you'd like to see developed as you get a chance to see previews and the like.

As always, my inspiration comes from the Traveller classics, especially the old fanzines of CT and MT. I hope that these products capture that same flavor, and that you find them helpful in expanding your Traveller gaming experience.

With Regards,
Flynn

Are there any news when "Flynn's Guide to Robots" may be published ?

I really need it, and if its rules do support the construction of aquatic ro-
bots for my water world setting I need it the day before yesterday ...

Thank you ! :D

And my wallet and I are matching Matrix Cypher's sentiment!

Just to add to the noise, I too am looking forward to a Robot book and am interested in what you are doing.

An updated, in-depth look at Robots would be very welcome. In the meantime Book 8 is still a useful resource.

I would hope that any modern treatment would maintain the same overall compatibility with prior treatments in Traveller that MGT did in, for example, it's starship construction rules.

My first intention was to publish the sector sourcebook for Azri Drakara. However, it looks like I have at least five buyers already lined up for the Robots book, so I will certainly shift gears and focus on that.

In regards to scheduling, I will be able to start on the content after Father's Day, as I am spending next week on family vacation. Given my thoughts on the content, I don't believe I will be ready with a finished manuscript until the beginning of August. It'll take a little time to prepare the PDF and POD after that point, but my goal is to aim for mid-August (pre-Gen Con Indy) for release, if life will allow me to do so.

I will likely also start a new thread on this board once development begins, so that I can keep you guys apprised of the book's development, as well as gain input on the kind of content you would like to see included, so long as it has an appropriate level of appeal, of course. (i.e. if you contribute on the thread, you can submit special requests.)

Projected page length should be between 64 and 128 pages total, depending on what gets written in the timeframe I am including. Also, as I cannot afford artwork, the book will be basically without art (unless I can find some public domain resources).

With Regards,
Flynn

So, any chance that these will be printed books, available at Retailers or are they strictly amateur PDFs? Printing in book form being my definition of Professional.

EDIT- I just saw the POD reference. So, please keep us appraised of when these will be available!

Flynn, I would suggest checking with local high school art clubs and colleges for talent, you may even put a post up locally and on the web stating you are looking for art talent what it is for. I would then describe the pay as being little to none, but expand on how their art work will be published in a book for people to see with credit associated to them. You will be able to pick up some ametures for the work, and from there you can have them tune up the image to your specifications.

Anyway just a little advice to consider for I know it's not easy getting a business started. Good Luck.

Okay, time to go against the grain here.

Flynn, put that Robot book away and work on:

Flynn's Guide to Azri Drakara
Flynn's Guide to Interstellar Adventure
Flynn's Guide to the Covenant of Discipline

We already have resources on robots. I'm not aware of any resources on this fabled Azri Drakara sector. :)

Flynn, I'll do you a few freebie illustrations if you need them.
Anything to further the cause. :)

I am definitely interested. How are you with black & white compositions? :)

I'll touch base with you tomorrow, as it's late here, but I hope we can come to an arrangement. You are definitely very skilled with your work.
