S&P47 ACTA Review

Just finnished reading the artical, and some things look cool. Dodging warbirds, shields, and I particulary like the new antifighter rules. We play with sfos rules (I know, we should have kept up with the rulebooks)and the antifighter rules just never seemed right. Having antifighter fire as a reaction to flights closing is bang on. Dedicated antifighter weapons usually track threats, so they can shoot at the first chance they get. The Gaim sound cool. But the photon bomb sounds (in name and action) just like the photon shard weapon from a Chenjesu Broodhome.

What´s a Chenjesu Broodhome?

it's a small east malasian mamal, that can litterally fire it's teeth at prey up to 4 inches away, rendering them incapacitated and helpless, about the size of a jack russel, it has a smokey grey fur, with orange flashes. It is mostly nocturnal choosing to attack creatures that are bumbling around in the dark, rather than try to approach them duriong the day. the female typically gives birth to between four and five young, although only one or two are likely to survive to adulthood.

Didn´t know they play Star Control in east malasia (google can be such a wonderful thing  )

No, that creature you describe is a very rare animal known as a "Northern Monkey" ;)

There are plenty of fighters with range greater than 2" - Rutarian, (now probably the nastiest fighter in the game), Thorun Torpedofighter and so on.

The Vorlon fighter defences may not be quite what they were (better in one way, worse in another) - but their fighters are a lot better at killing fighters.

Are the fighters getting advanced anti-fighter traits too, then? So that you can actually use them as a screen rather than ablative 'stop you in a suicidal dogfight for one turn' armour?

Wasn´t there something about that in the Preview? That fighters can act as interceptors or something like that?

I think it was something like a 'defencive fire' special action. What I wonder about is the 'lumbering' trait. Sorry I shouldn't make obscur referances to over decade old computer games, even if they were :D :D :D THE BEST COMPUTERGAME EVER!!! :D :D :D

Not talking about acting as interceptors. Greg stated that they would be effective at destroying enemy fighters.

Since I recall hearing tell some time ago that their beams were losing the AF trait, and I doubt very much that they've suddenly gone from dogfight +0 to dogfight +4, I can only assume they've got some other ability which makes them able to destroy enemy fighters?

It's as big as an Earth-like planet.

That assuming planet templates are "in scale" or more of approximations for game play.

Is there specific scale in ACTA? Haven't seen anywhere what 1cm equals in distances...

I liked the preview a great deal and have read it several times. One thing I was a little disappointed about was that there were no photos of the upcoming ships. I hope that we will see the first pics of those on the weekend (can´t attend the open day... :( ); I would love to see the next miniatures. Soon.

Yes. The Vorlon fighters do get AAF.

There is one other super heavy fighter that gets anti-fighter too.

Fighters can be used as interceptors, so the Shadows and Vorlons could do so. Although, as Burger says, it can be detrimental to the fighters. :)

This may sound a bit pissy, but then it wouldn't be me if i didn't ask...

What about the Drakh? Do we actually get some form of useful fighter defence now? Or do we still have to rely on the GEG and hope that when we're swarmed with fighters that they just don't score any crits?

take a guess. .

I'm gonna take a stab and say that we're still going to have to rely on the enemy to conveniently park his fighters in front of my Light Raiders and let me blast him out of the sky.

The talk I hear of ships traits going offline with crits BETTER not apply to my GEG! Otherwise Drakh will get eaten alive by any fleet that can bring decent numbers of fighters
