S&P 87 Feedback

The Greek

Banded Mongoose
Hi guys

I am keen to have some feedback for how you see each issue of Signs and Portents. From the next issue onwards I plan on having a link to a new thread in the forum (like this one) in the E-Zine where people can make comments and ask about future plans I have for it.

I may also start a page featuring people's comments and questions from the forum (a kind of readers' letters, if you will) but at this stage this is a maybe.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Keep S&P fresh and lively.

Well, I only ever read the Traveller articles. I liked them very much. I appreciate how much content there was, as well as things devoted to fleshing out characters.

I really must get to read more of the RuneQuest articles: RQ was, after all, the first fantasy RPG I ever picked up and the second RPG I ever learned to run after Traveller. I started with RQII but quickly switched to RQIII.

It was great to see S&P back up to its full length. The last few issues felt a little under-cooked - which is not intended as a slur on Charlie's editor-ship. She certainly moved the magazine on in terms of layout and design when she took over.

I thought the mix of articles was good: making the magazine appeal to as many players of Mongoose games as possible has got to be a good idea.

I will be adding further to the mix in January's issue, with a Paranoia Scenario. In fact I have several scenarios lined up plus one or two articles, and hope to be able to continue to feature the game in the future.

Not only am I planning to cover all our games as much as possible, but I also hope to provide material for all our settings as well (although it will not will be possible to cover every setting in every issue!). For RuneQuest I am hoping to get a Wraith Recon article or two in time for the next issue, for example, and have a Deus Vult scenario already earmarked. There is also a Hammers Slammers scenario for Traveller coming up in future months and some Dredd material in the works, although the former will require some work to get ready for publication.

How often will you be able to post new characters for the Lone Wolf multiplayer game? I have a whole host of characters lined up and just waiting to be published - and the LW coverage has been mighty sparse the past few issues, to be honest.

Depends on how much stuff I get in to work with.

There will be a Lone Wolf scenario in January's issue. Over XMas I will be going through all the submission notes and articles I have, pinning down future issues as much as possible. I do not have much Lone Wolf material to work with, yet, unless I get a load of character classes in the next couple of days there is not much about for February / March. (I think I have one class in my article bank at the moment - would love more).

After this I will have to see. But once I get back from the XMas break I should have a far better idea for what I want to do with S&P. And I may well be sending out specific article requests to writers.

However, I am determined to include an article for every current game we have in every issue if I have enough decent material to do this. Some games are going to be harder than others to keep up this rate, but Lone Wolf SHOULD be okay in the longer run, there are enough fans out there, but I have not been able to get back to all the writers as thoroughly as I would like. Yet.

XMas is a difficult month with a lot to do in a shorter month than normal, and I have only been back at Mongoose for one and a half months so I am still sorting out my roles properly.

My only issue is the lack of attention to some of the older systems such as VAS. Otherwise the Mag is great.

Some stuff I can not use material for (Conan is especially annoying as I had a last minute influx of material I simply could not use before the licence ran out).

At the moment I am concentrating on building up a strong article bank for our current, established games. Paranoia/RQ2/Traveller/LWMPG.

Miniature gaming will start to get some real love as the year progresses, first with the new version of ACTA and then with the wargames side of the magazine expanding (adding to the overall page count rather than taking space away from the RPGs, I would add).

I would hope to be able to include some VAS at some point later in the year as I do like the game. A lot.

BTW, I'm the guy that submitted the Drakkarim Assault Trooper earlier this month. Will send some more classes now that I know you are looking for more.

I did think this, but it was a little late at the office for me to check last night... I really needed to get home!

I've sent you a summary of two more LW classes - the Acolyte of Vashna and the Zukanozod Lancer - and will submit them if you are interested. Still have about 14 other classes besides those...
