Running Adrift

I have a couple of questions about running adrift. If a ship becomes adrift when taking hits to the Engines Critical trait, is a ship able to repair itself so it can be under its own power again?

Secondly, as I'm trying to demo out the game to my local game store, we ran into the question of when a ship goes to 0 hit points and the ship goes adrift then, is the other player able to board that ship for full victory points before it leaves the table? Would the troops present on that ship still be there in that case? And because you are not able to fire upon the ship, how many victory points are you able to take from a running adrift ship with 0 hit points?

1) Yes. Same as with all non-vital hits, a successful repair roll will also remove all effects caused by that particular critical.

2) If a ship goes down to zero hit points it's counted as destroyed, whether it's adrift or a burned-out hulk. It can't be boarded and gives victory points same as any destroyed ship (it's different if the ship goes adrift due to having no remaining crew, but still 1+ hit points, in which case it could be boarded and captured).
 
A ship which is a drifting hulk is essentially irrelevant to the game. It's assumed to be too badly ruined to consider boarding.

The only real important of a drifting ship is that I guess it might be subsequently caught in (for example) another ship explosion or an asteroid field and hence go up itself.

'Fraid not - once a ship is rolled for on the Stricken Ships table you never roll for it again, so if it runs adrift, it'll carry on until it goes off the board. It acts as a hazard to navigation, but that's all really.

I'm wondering if there should be a ruling on using tractors to 'throw' adrift ships into large targets like space stations or planets? :twisted:
