RuneQuest II and miniatures

Hello

Sorry for my English, I am French (explaining that).

Just one question.

do you use miniatures to play RuneQuest II?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

We haven't used miniatures for a long, long time.

However, we might be going back to using some kind of miniatures, not metal ones though, in the near future.

We use them in our group. I don't know that there is a compelling reason we do - it may be simply a case of us never trying not to use them.

I use miniatures and 25 mm hexagon paper. I'm a bit of a grognard. I like to approach combat in RuneQuest the same way I play war games, with their hexagon maps and cardboard chits. Miniatures help me keep track of movement, range, and position, and give the players a better idea of the tactical situation. Miniatures are the playing pieces of RPGs. I guess I could use cardboard chits instead, but miniatures have a nicer tactile feel.

I've always used miniatures for combat in every system I've played.

I'm no good at keeping track of position during combat in my head. I also like to think of combat as something tactical, strategic, and dangerous. I think the visual reference can give a player's a good picture of the situation, and there's rarely a misunderstanding of anyone's position.

I've never used minis in any game I've GM'd and only a very few that I have played in (and those weren't with any regular group I'm a member of but at a con).

We're using them in our game, but mostly because we have tons of D&D minis and nice battlemats/dungeon tiles. Are they necessary? Not at all. Can they be fun? Absolutely!
