Rules question: Flee Close combat and Ganging up

I would like your opinion about an issue I haven't found covered by the rules:

Suppose a model is ganged up in close combat by more than one attacker, and he wants to flee. Logic says he has to win them all in his "immediate melee round". Proceeding with this assumption, I see 2 ways to resolve the situation:
1. the one who tries to flee rolls once his Melee Dice + modifiers and uses that same set of results to compare with all his enemies. He has to win them all (have the highest score) in order to win and flee

2. the one who tries to flee rolls anew against each enemy trying to overcome his scores.

I would like to hear your opinions about it. I, for one, feels like the first option is both simpler and makes sense. yet, I am not an experienced miniatures/skirmish games.

The fleeing Model just has to survive as I saw it later - he doesn't have to win all enemies. Yet, the question is left: would he rolls anew against each and every enemy around him, or just one set of rolls to compare to each?
