Can it work? I really like skyhawk destroyers, and if possible would want a force focussing on them with a few larger ships in as a sort of anvil. Can it work?

last week i played a force of 6 sky hawks and 3 nova hawks, 1500 points total. It worked ok against my sons klingons. However once again the two first plasma volleys for a total of 24ad was promptly nuked down by IDF fire so nothing killed. the destroyers hold up ok but dont try and stand off and fight. Strike and fade attacks work best during the fight i lost 1 nova and 1 skyhawk and only had 2 C7's at 0 shields. I know everyone will argue with me but plasma is still too easy to nuke down.
Funny, I was just thinking the other day that the next tournament (maybe better as a campaign day) would be good as a frigate & destroyer heavy clash...

Skyhawk is survival not damg, only has 4 plasma dice I'd rather take the e5 with the same dice for 25 points less. I haven't had much luck with the eagle series other then the king, 8 to 6 hull just leads fo easy to crit kill before even firing. My favorite combo is sharrowhawks, kr and kings with a kc9r dread or novahawk.
