Role-Play for Modern Warfare Enthusiasts

Greetings! Seeing that there are so many wargamers on this forum, it wouldn’t be too far of a stretch of the imagination to predict that a few of you are either role-players or writers. I used to host a role-playing site, but it became defunct due to lack of activity. It’s a strategic role-playing game designed to cater to military enthusiasts and creative writers. This isn’t a blatant advertisement, because it’s currently, offline. However, if there are a few interested people- i.e. around ten or more people interested in this concept, I can quickly redo and activate the site to conform with the Battlefield Evolution storyline.

So! Anyone interested?

I was in the group when it was active... and the setup he had running was good... we're looking at doing some revisions though... it'd be nice to see some people interested in joining...

Sounds interesting. I am really more of a roleplayer than miniatures gamer (I am just getting to the hobby). Currently my time is pretty much stretched between various (forum and e-mail) games but one should end quite fast. So put me to the list and I'll see what's my situation is if/when the game starts.

Actually, this could be used as an online campaign, where using a modified version of the campaign rules they fight over the city online.

It'd be nice to get things going again...

And Personally, I'm a gear geek, so we could do with a few conversion ideas and other fun things, instead of all the typical stuff you always see. Most of the RP's going to be infantry tactics to begin with, but in general that's going to be the fun to be had.

Looks interesting. I like the whole modern warfare, even the Iraq conflict. I only frown upon the fact that dubbya won't leave them people alone...
I might take a more in depth look later
:)

Well, that concept for now was just being put out... originally it was a different global situation... and we'll be endeavouring to rework it. And yes, Mr Evil, if I got the veiled reference, you can play a soldier in Her Majesty's service.

We'll be reworking the scenario and the site once we get the interest, and of course we'll be seeking input. It's a matter of finding the interest first, and then we can get together somewhere and hammer out a concept of what we want the situation to be.

Thus far, the rules are like this:

Introduction: Battlefield Modern Warfare is a role-playing simulation designed to integrate expert role-players and newbie players alike. The idea itself comes from real-world politics, historical references, and even a few video games. Here at Modern Warfare, we are trying to emulate the experience and drama of war into your computers. We hope you have a blast.

Getting Started: Welcome to the site. There are a few things you must do before we can begin. Somewhere on this site, in the message board is a profile-posting section. Please read over some examples, and then post your profile. Second, read the read over this page and then find the board called Battlefield, where we are currently role-playing in, and jump in.

The Basics: Since you are here, chances are you probably know what role-playing is. So we are not going to cover that. Instead, we cover format and style. First and foremost all players must post more than a few sentences. We have no problems with the newbie players. Except that on a message board, the minimum of a paragraph is preferred. Second, everything you do must happen in real time. The rules are simple, your characters and actions must all be realistic. If you are fighting, you have only two attacks per turn. If you exceed or screw up, your actions are void. (And the guy your attacking will either have his attack succeed or just merely take your turn.) Winners are based on their realistic ability to obliterate the enemy. To sum it up, this is a turn-based role-playing session on a message board.

Note: Since we have NPCs, (Maximum of 3) there are two attacks (or defends) i.e. actions per characters. So, if you have 3 NPCs, that's six attacks plus your own per turn.

NPC's: Like it said above, you can have 3 personnal NPC's total. Meaning NPC''s with names and such like..."Micheal" or "Gerald". Average NPC's are just NPC's with no names like..."Soldier #1", "Pilot", "Rifle-two" etc etc. In other words, there not important. Personnal NPC's are part of your character, so when someone attacks your personnel NPC he/she has to give your personnal NPC a chance to dodge the attack. Average NPC's are the complete opposite. You can use Average NPC's to control and stuff like that, and attack other Average NPC's. They cannot attack Players or Personnal NPC's. Each Personnal NPC's(And players) can only attack/defend 2 times per post. So if you have 2 Personnal NPC's, you can attack/defend 4 times per post...make that 6 times, if you count yourself.

Advance: Players start out with two weapons (Assualt Rifles, Pistols, i.e. small arms only. Must be realistic and real weapons), and whatever equipment (realistic equipment, medic kit, and all that happy junk. You can’t carry a tank in your pockets.) All personnel weapons are free, like M16, AK-47 etc etc...and yes, after each battle you can trade your current weapons, with a new one(Post it in the Armory Board). All players must have the headings (Currently Engaging, Numbers of Combat Points) in each post. These headings allow the managers to keep track of what is happening. Also makes easy to see if players are cheating as well. Player characters can collaborate with other players for missions, or use NPC (Non Player Characters) characters as part of a team. Also note that if a player dies all the NPCs affiliate with that player character are ‘captured’ and exchanged for Combat Points.

Note: Captured Enemies (Personal NPCs, or Players themselves) are worth 200 CP each. If your bad ass enough to capture lots of them, then you earn the extra pay!

About Combat Points: Each time a role-player posts a message, he gets a Combat Point(CP). Whenever the role-player kills another role-player, there will be a reward of twenty Combat Points. Combat points are used to buy or upgrade character equipments. They cannot be transferred. It will also determine your rank. The more CP you have, the faster your rank will rise. If you become an high ranking oficer, you will be able to do many things lower ranking soldiers cant do. But, once you use your combat points your rank will NOT be affected. For example, if you have 250 CP, and your rank is a corporal, but you use all your CP on a air strike. Now you have 0 CP. It will NOT effect your rank. So you will stay as a Corporal.

Please note: There will always be an ATTACKING and DEFENDING faction.
-All players in the attacking faction, will only receive ONE CP per turn.
-All players in the defending faction get the advantage of TWO CP per turn.
- If you kill another Role Player(NPC's dont count), you will receive 20 CP.
-The more you post, the more CP you'll receive. So be active!

Pruchasing: If you have enough Combat Points(CP), to purchase something, please post it in the Armory Board. For example:
Items: Fighter Strike(F-22 fighter jet)
Cost: 250 CP

My current CP: 1100
Rank: Captain
CP remaining: 1100-250= 850 CP

Pretty simple right? Good.

Commanders: Commanders are elected players who get to screw around in the current situation map. (;D) They are usually the managers, or people who have accumulate enough points to be a commander. Commanders basically choose where to attack on the current situation map, and are basically responsible for the strategic part of the war. If you’re fighting a winning war, that has nothing but victories, and somehow you lose. Blame your commander. (There will be a command board where commanders and players can discuss options for combat.)

How the war is won or loss: Basically we are simulating a world-wide war. In order to do that, there must be two simulations. First is the battlefield: this is where players of one group compete against another group for domination per simulated session. This is also where you’ll be shooting at people, and spending points for artillery strike. Then there’s the world-wide war. You can influence the battle by talking to commanders via Command Board. Please note, everyone must be characters here. The commander chooses the places to battle. When the correct conditions are meet on the current situation map, one faction will win- and another will lose.

Battles: A commander from the opposing faction will choose a place to attack. It has to be a Capital city. The other faction must defend their Capital city at all costs. If he loses the Capital city, he loses the whole country. For instance, lets say NATO attacked Moscow, Russia. If SCO fails to defend Moscow, then they lose the whole country. So Russia now belongs to NATO. Each faction also has the ability to take over Neutral countries, without ANY resistance. All they have to do, is let the Commander post a thread, with the Capital cities name and the country as the title, and write how they took over it(used tanks, helicopters etc. etc. to take over the city). Very simple. Please look at the Current Situation page.

NOTE: EACH TIME YOU POST THERE MUST BE A HEADING!

Examples:

-Location/District:
-Current Faction:
-Combat Points Left:
-Artillery Status: (Artillery requires more than one post to activate, read above/ the rewards system)
-Using Rewards/ Upgrades attatched: (Must list)

We can streamline it, and revise it. We're also looking for tactical commanders who will lead, the MEA, PLA, US, or EU to victory.

Update: We have around ten people, so construction on the site will begin. The storyline will be based on battlefield evolution, we’re currently taking suggestions and revamping the campaign arc. Join, and give suggestions, here or over there.

Hopefully mongoose has no issue with us using his storyline ;D
