Robots

whats the range on drones like the personal drone? The probe drone has a range of 500 miles.

Also whats the rules for upgrading them at higher tech levels? I didn't see much discussion of upgrading equipment at higher tech levels in the main Traveller book?

thanks!

ROBOTS have been part of Traveller from very early and have drawn a lot of effort in several editions, but always seem to be kept as an afterthought when it came to writing for the setting. Of the adventures written for Classic and Mega by GDW or DGP, only the Digest Cycle features a robot as anything but a curiosity or maguffin, and only a few robots appear at all. In GDW works, most of the visible robots are affiliated with aliens and enemies.

So... Is the Imperium intended to be a robot using culture?

Didn't the JTAS article mention something about robots being ubiquitous and "invisible"? Might be one reason they're de-emphasized.

That said, I don't see why a player can't play an "artificial person". Deal with them in the rulebooks in a similar way that aliens are treated.

Classic Traveller book 8 Robots allowed for this.

Well only if that "Artificial Person" was mechanically based. And Ignoring most of the other problems with book8.

If Book 8 allowed this, JTAS #whatever probably did, too. And it apparently was simpler, more like CT, and less like MT. (Is that a good thing or a bad thing?)

Book8 was a preview of what Mega-Errata would bring us....
