RingWorld

Yes! I own the original Ringworld RPG from Chaosium. It's a fantastic system with a lot of potential. Unfortunately, it received very little support. Consequently, I never really played it. We played the introductory scenario once. Only five scenarios (I think) were ever published. All of them involved being stuck on Ringworld. I wanted the option to have characters come and go on Ringworld, and adventure in other parts of Known Space. I had plans to expand the game in this way and create more scenarios, but life got in the way. Then it stopped being printed. So, now I'm afraid to handle the game too much because it's become irreplaceable. Besides, I'd rather just buy a scenario pack and play the game. Creating scenarios is time consuming and a lot of work.
I would be ecstatic if Mongoose took over the license for Ringworld. javascript:emoticon(':D') Now that they've worked out most of the kinks in their version of the RuneQuest mechanics, I'm sure that they will do a fantastic job of reviving this game, and they are so good about supporting their products. If Mongoose manages to start publishing Ringworld stuff, I'll buy all of it.

Chaosium only published the boxed set, "Ringworld", and a "Ringworld Companion". There are two articles in Different Worlds no. 36 and no. 37.
Then there was an announcement of a second subblement in the Chaosium catalogs, but it was never finished or published (i have a copy of the manuscript in my files).

Ringworld RPG (or RQ Ringworld) will not happen.

Ringworld will be made into some movies, and so the option in licencing RingWorld and/or the Known Space universe is not an option for Larry Liven, but is now in the hands of the movie production company.

As far as i have heared SciFi Channel wants to do a mini series...

So, a Ringworld RPG will never ever happen because some TV or movie company wants to make a Ringworld movie? I would think that if anything a Ringworld RPG would serve to promote a movie or TV mini-series about Ringworld. I'm sure that anyone who has an interest in a Ringworld RPG would love to watch a Ringworld movie. I don't see how a Ringworld RPG would infringe upon revenue from a movie or mini-series. Is there someone or some organization I could contact to point this out? Perhaps there are a lot of complicated legal issues, but it just seems silly to actively prohibit publication of an innocent little RPG because of plans to make a movie.

As far as i understood it Larry Niven himself simply CAN´T license a reprint of Ringworld because the company he sold the rights to do a movie about Ringworld is now in charge for licencing RPG, boardgame and such (that was told me by Charlie Krank of Chaosium Inc. when he was asked at TENTACLES Convention last May... Chaosium Inc. wanted to do a reprint, Larry Niven agreed that that would be a great idea, but his agent has to calm them both down, because of the off-licensed movie rights...).

Osentalka's right. The deal Larry Niven has gives the full media rights to one of the studios. He is very supportive of the RPG, and supportive of an idea for a Known Space version, but the small print of his deal precludes it.

The manuscript Osentalka refers to is called 'The City in the Jungle' and was to be the first Ringworld campaign pack. It was the first project I was ever commissioned by Chaosium to write for and, had the book seen print, it would've been great. Ah, well.

A reprint of the game by Chaosium would have been just what the doctor ordered:). Well, at least I know what the deal is now.

Who are these studio people? I want to write to them and ask why they are sitting on the rights to the game and doing nothing. While they're at it they can explain why they are sitting on the rights to the movie or mini series and doing nothing.
Eventually, when I get more time, I'll write my own Ringworld scenarios for personal use. I own both the game and the supplement, but I've been afraid to handle them too much. I plan to scan these and save them as a PDF.
Was 'The City in the Jungle' finished? If so, it's a shame that it can't be printed and sold.

I can´t tell if the copy i got is complete, but:

My 36 pages "The City in the Jungle" manuscript is an outline to a 80 pages book (the manuscript itself is numbered page 1 - 29 + 30A, 30B, 30C + 4 pages maps).

Sounds fantastic. Too bad a bunch of movie execs won't let you market the finished manuscript. I suppose you could avoid legal hassles by providing it for free, but then you'd have no incentive to finish the manuscript and pay for the printing costs. Besides, you deserve to be compensated for your hard work.
