Resource collecting for my own RPG campaign:

Ah nice a online store i had never heard of before thanks.

I try to order from the same people as much as I can, but Paizo only carries the 2nd edition stuff and a few of the older ones, since I buy a lot of stuff from them easier on shipping and handling but if this place has a lot of older stuff might be good to make a big order from them to get older stuff from several companies.

Ok so today I ordered from Mongoose both:

The Free Companies
The Pirate Isles

Both will add to my collection. Now is might get more of the 2nd Ed Conan stuff next. I do believe I now own/ordered all the older resource books. I have not bothered with the adventures , what do folks think about them? I there anything in them that is of value? I ask this because I can come up with pretty good adventures on my own and never ever use any module as is anyway.

Tales of the Black Kingdoms
Three linked african style stories that scream for adventure. I liked this one, even with its many incoherencies.

Heretics of Tarantia
A nice adventure focusing on the Mitran/Asuran in Aquilonia. The map of Tarantia included might come handy, given the scarcity of Mongoose maps...

Lurking Terror of Nahab
An ancient evil stalks the streets of Nahab, Corinthia. Didn't really liked this one.

Tower of the Elephant
I guees you already know the story, even if the adventure proposes some variants to surprise the players. Ther's a nice map of Arenjun included...

Reavers of the Vilayet
From the sands of the Kharamun Desert to the heart of the Vilayet Sea,
the players are caught in the conflict of two enemy brothers.

Trial of Blood
A mega campaign spanning from Aquilonia to Stygia. Very much railroading but very complete too. I didn't dig too much for the 'Save the World' plot, though...

Betrayer of Asgard
A long run across the Northern wastes against a long dead necromancer. I really liked this one, although certain passages are not very 'Conanesque'... Some are really worth the trip, anyway. Probably my favourite one so far...

I must say after buying quite a few of the above stated products for Conan, I am quite impressed to say the least. Coming from a D&D back ground I still like magic to be a little stronger but my style of Magic is slightly different than standard D&D anyway.

Well I will continue to buy all the 1st ed Conan books first, and then move on to obtaining all the 2nd ed Conan books and stay current as each new one comes out.

I do believe my next books to add to my ever growing collection will be:

- The Conan Compendium
- Players Guide to the Hyborian Age
- Bestiary of the Hyborian Age
- Return to the Road of Kings

These (4) books look like the best choices to obtain next for my collection. My oldest (13 yr old) son is enjoying the read of all these books and is thinking about switching from using Fantasy Hero 5ed Revised to using a modified Conan d20 / BRP system for his own gaming style of play and campaign. I too am looking at this alot more myself, and he uses many of my own house rules.

Oh well any comments on the above four books would be great!

PS: Between Travaller and Conan, I seem to be orderring / pre-orderring alot of books these days from Moongoose Pub.

Ok last week I got in the mail my copy of "The Free Companies" but am still awaiting to recieve yet "The Pirate Isles". Next i just ordered today both; "Hyboria's Fiercst - Barbarians, Borders, and Nomads" and "Bestiary of the Hyborian Age". Yes I know that they are both 1st ed stuff, but as resource they are worth adding to the ever growing Conan collection I am building now.

I am very pleased at everything that I have purchased so far, but could someone tell me what the differences really are between 1st ed Conan and 2nd ed Conan. I have the 2nd Ed Core book as well but have not really dug into anything to see what the major differences are between the two versions so far.

Again, you don't have to worry about compatibility between the first and second edition, as they are pretty much identical. The Temptress as a core class, defensive blasts for each sorcery style, new poison rules, a few rules added from SRD and that's it...

You'll get a more comprehensive list of changes here:
http://hyboria.xoth.net/rules/changes_in_conan_second_edition.htm

Anyway, the Bestiary is a 2nd Ed product.

Return to the Road of Kings is an augmented reprint (80 more pages !) of the original RoK book.

The Compendium is a collection of articles an adventures from the early Signs & Portents issues.

The Player's Guide contains background tables and personality archetypes as well as some new character options. I must admit I'm not a huge fan of this book.

Ok got my copy of "The Pirate Isles" in the mail yesturday and I am quite happy with that resource book so far. Over all the Conan boks are all quite good if you ask me. I am quite surprised I never look into this line before more closely. As with all items with my hobby, once I find something I like I find a way to pick up alot of materials. I have to say I am quite taken by the line of products, and hope that Mongoose continues in their support for the Conan line.

Hello everyone,

Ok yesturday I added again to my collection, now I own:

Tales of the Black Kingdoms

Another good book, not sure what I will purchase next but I am thinking of adding two more resource books here shortly. I am starting to have collected a major amount of the 1st ed Conan stuff now that is still out there in print, and am trying to get the last couple iof books still offerred by either Mongoose Pub or FPP Games. I want to get to the point where I own it all and just have to stay current and buy all the new books as they come out. I count myself as extremely lucky with my hobby and collection.

Hello everyone,

For years now I have been a huge fan of D&D, well after the anouncement of v4 of D&D I have thrown in the towel on D&D. Honestly I liked v2.5 of D&D the best but have a HUGE v3.5 d20 library. I have been gaming now for 32+ yrs, and thus have a extremely huge library of gaming stuff.

Ok that being said I am looking at using Basic Roleplaying with some add on House Rules to revamp my Fantasy Campaign. Now I am always on the lookout for more resource materials on fantasy to add to the ever growing fantasy resource library.

Why just keep it at "fantasy" games? I think all RPGs can give inspiration and ideas to each other. I love the RIFTS "Adventures" book- it gives advice for GMs on many different areas that can be applied to any RPG- traditional fantasy, modern, or sci fi.

Having a very large library (as I and having gamed for many years we all do) should give you food for thought right there, just look at another game and view it from a different angle or look at it in a different light.

Look at how some famous cowboy movies were inspired by the Japanese samurai originals (the 7 samurai, yojimbo, etc.).

All I'm saying is don't just look at "fantasy" or "conan" books for inspiration. I own them all but I look everywhere for ideas.

Very good points indeed!!!

At this point I am collecting as much of the Conan product line as I can find. I want to purchase all the 1st ed stuff before it is no longer out there and as well I want to get to the point that I own all the 2nd ed Conan stuff. Thus when a new product comes out, all I need to do is just Pre-Order it and once it is released to just wait for it to arrive and add to my growing collection of resource stuff. For me since I like the D&D 3.5 d20 stuff, and both Pizaro and Conan use that....I can merge them all together and use stuff from all, as well as use my many house rules and rules from BRP as well too. I have my own campaign realm that I have used now for about 25+ years, and currently I am redesigning/reworking it using the 3.5 d20 system. I have many related influences that I use in my realms, and my goal is a stronger version of Realistic Fantasy with not as much magic but a bit stronger and flashier than is currently used within Conan RPG. Also it is all resource material to me and the more I can get the broader my base is to mine for ideas and etc. In the end I do this to build a better game for my players and myself to GM.

Thanks to one and all...
