After reading through STL I was wondering a few things.

What are the populations for Luna and Mars?

Is there any genetic engineering or AIs?

Have you read any Allen Steele?

Last year I worked out a campaign set in the Hyades cluster, and I would point out Aldebaran and such to the boys - until I realised it was only a few hundred million years old and so I ditched it all ... (no native animal or plant life - and I wanted it to feel right)

I used the Pleiades Cluster with similar results, so I just moved the colonies NEXT TO the cluster, not in it and kept going.

Now, one of my subsectors is dominated by the Pleiades Star Cluster and those beautiful blue stars with their wispy gasses are visible all over the setting.
