First Turn:
EA Crusade raids Mining Outpost.
Scenario: Assassination (Softly, Softly)
EAS Pegasus (Avenger Heavy Carrier) versus 4 Sho'Kov and 1 Thentus (Rolled 1 Raid FAP)
Two Asteroid fields near the center of the board forms a chokepoint from either long table edge, effectively halving the board.
Deployment:
EAS Pegasus deploys in South-East corner of the board, with four Thunderbolts (VF-301 and 302) deployed. Sho'Kov deploy in North-west corner, on the very edge of the allowable deployment zone. Thentus deploys right against the northern board edge, on the very edge of the allowable deployment zone.
Turn One:
EA win initiative. Sho'Kovs cruise towards the chokepoint. EAS Pegasus moves parallel to the Asteroid fields, keeping abeam of the chokepoint between the Asteroid fields. The Thentus moves towards the northern Asteroid field. EAS Pegasus deploys its remaining fighter squadrons, VF-187 (Auroras) and VF-681 (Thunderbolts).
Turn Two:
EA win initiative, again. The Sho'Kovs continue to bore down on the Pegasus, hovering just outside of the chokepoint now. EAS Pegasus continues to move parallel to the Asteroid fields, while the Thentus attempts to navigate the asteroid field, and with a Crew Quality of 2 fails miserably, taking 9 damage before exiting the other side. All of the fighters position themselves just on the outside of the chokepoint, using the southern Asteroid field as cover.
Turn Three:
EA wins Initiative... again! Hurrah Command +1. The Sho'Kovs enter the chokepoint, bracketing the EAS Pegasus, which turns towards them, but is just out of range. The Thentus turns, and boresights the Pegasus. The Fighters scream in, engaging the first Sho'kov in the roughly 2 x 2 column, crippling it. Firing from the Narn is largely ineffectual, though the Thentus does 9 damage to the Pegasus.
Turn Four:
EA wins initiative once again, a theme. The Sho'Kovs try to bracket the Pegasus again, but the crippled one is out of arc, the others passing it by. The crippled Sho'Kov Closes All Blast doors, the others fail their Come About rolls. EAS Pegasus flies past the Sho'Kov squadrons, and its aft batteries finish off the crippled Sho'Kov. The Fighters, switching to a new target, do 6 or so damage to another Sho'Kov. The Thentus and Sho'Kovs all together manage to kill off three Thunderbolts, wiping out VF-302 and halving VF-301.
Turn Five:
EA wins initiative a fifth time, the Sho'Kovs still wheeling to target, though their torpedoes have arc. The Thentus has to maneuver to avoid the asteroid field, and so doesn't have boresight. The Pegasus, sensibly, opens jump gate. Interceptors ward off what little hits the Sho'Kovs manage, the beams on the Thentus missing completely. Fighters move away, the Pegasus recovering four and the fifth escaping through the jump point. (And yes, later we realized after re-reading the rules that 1) You can't enter a jump point on the turn it was created, and 2) You cannot use any special actions and recover fighters at the same time... Oops!)
Turn Six:
EA wins initiative a final time, the Pegasus escapes. 5 VPs to EA for destroying a Sho'Kov, and escaping alive, 2.5 VPs for the Narn for the Pegasus' tactical withdraw.
Campaign End Phase:
I made another boo-boo, and gave the Narn 10 more RR than they should have gotten, so they received 30 RR this turn instead of 20. I got around 17, spending 4 to repair the Pegasus, and buy a Chronos-class Attack Frigate, the EAS Epirus, and the Pegasus uses its exp to get a refit, getting Extra Hangers, where I promptly stuck a Boarding Pod. I forget how I spent the rest, but I was left with only 1 or 2 RR. The Narn expand their fleet considerably, buying a Var'Nic and 2 Sho'Kar, along with repairing significant damage to one or two of his ships, leaving them with 1 or 2 RR as well. Also, the Narn captured Gas Giant number 7. Should note here that we're using slightly modified lists, the Chronos recieving +2 AD in its forward, starboard, and port arcs, along with the Crusade list recieving the Olympus Corvette and Avenger Heavy Carrier. Narn receive a bevy of changes, such as 10 inch range Secondaries on Battle Level ships and up, 3 inch 3 AD Frazi Fighters, +2 Dogfight Goriths, and the Mag Guns proposed in the Narn thread (SAP, SL, TD un-interceptable Mag Guns). Also, we've increased Fighter firepower by 100% (Doubling them), though that didn't happen until turn two.
Campaign Turn Two:
EA Crusade raids the Temperate Planet (Uninhabited World #5)
Scenario: Convoy Duty (Softly, Softly)
EAS Pegasus (Avenger Heavy Carrier) and EAS Epirus (Chronos-class Attack Frigate) versus 2 Thentus (Rolled 1 Raid FAP) + 6 Civilian Freighters.
Same table layout as before, with two high density asteroid fields creating a chokepoint through the center of the board. The Narn really need to work on their convoy routes.
Deployment:
EA forces remain off table. The 6 Freighters form a column with 2 abroad and 3 in length, the 2 Thentus' forming up on either side, infront of the convoy.
Turn One:
Whole convoy advances towards the chokepoint and inevitable ambush.
Turn Two:
EA wins initiative (Who guessed it?). EAS Pegasus enters near the middle of the board, on opposite side of the Asteroid field of the Narn, the Epirus between the Asteroid field and the Pegasus, both entering from the southern table edge. The Convoy continues to advance towards the chokepoint, the Thentus' hovering just outside of it, the Freighters using All Ahead Full to make better(-ish) time. The Pegasus deploys VF-187 (Auroras) and VF-301 (Thunderbolts).
Turn Three:
EA lose initiative (El Shock!). The Epirus moves at half speed, staying just out of line of sight, against the asteroid field, just shy of the chokepoint. The Convoy enters the chokepoint, Thentus' in the lead. The Pegasus continues moving parallel to the Asteroid fields, moving towards the center of the board. Launches a halved VF-302, and VF-681 (Both Thunderbolts).
Fourth Turn:
EA lose intiative... again! (What, what, what!). The Pegasus moves into the center of the board and turns, while one Thentus moves halfway through the asteroid-caused chokepoint. The Epirus moves to position itself in the middle of the chokepoint's exit, where the second Thentus promptly boresights it. The Fighters alpha strike the forward Thentus, doing 9 damage, a -AD weapons crit, and a crit that takes out its AF. Epirus fires, damaging the Thentus further, down to half of its damage. The Thentus' both fire, doing 7 damage to the Epirus, and destroying two of the five remaining Thunderbolt flights, wiping out VF-301 (Again!)
Turn Five:
EA loses initiative (Yeah, I was complaining too). Epirus turns into the chokepoint, towards the convoy ships still struggling through it, moving around the Thentus, who both manage boresight the Pegasus, which had moved towards the convoy ships. Auroras attack the closest freighter, doing 5 or so damage. The remaining three Thunderbolts close into the damaged Thentus and finish it off. The remaining Thentus damages the Pegasus for 6 damage, killing off an Aurora and two more Thunderbolts, halving VF-187 and destroying VF-302. The Epirus opens up, damaging the Thentus slightly, while crippling a freighter. Convoy struggles to exit the chokepoint, just falling short.
Turn Six:
EA wins initiative (A return to the natural order!) The Thentus flies past the Pegasus, overshooting and attempting to Come About, failing. The Epirus circles the convoy, while the Pegasus Comes About in the middle of the convoy formation. The Thentus dies after finishing off the last Thunderbolt flight of VF-681, the Epirus and Pegasus damage some freighters. The Pegasus deploys its Boarding Pod, which promptly gets destroyed by anti-fighter. At this point, the Narn player forfeits, the Convoy's annihilation only a matter of time.
Campaign End Phase:
No RR mess-ups this time, though I forget how much RR I made. The Narn player gets 23 RR, and captures the Mining Outpost. I repair the Pegasus and Epirus, and purchase another Chronos, the EAS Athens. The Narn player buys two Thentus' to replace the destroyed ones. At some point, he also got some T'Ranns, though I don't precisely remember when.
More to come later, such as one Var'Nic goring the whole raid fleet, EA unintentionally discovering a strategic target for the Narn (Duuur), and more! Hope it isn't too dry! (Too early in the morning to write humor...)
